I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in both PA and NJ. I have been in private practice since 2001. I work with ages 15 years and older and I LOVE my career. I work with teens and young adults who are transitioning and have seen these clients through the entire process of not being accepted by peers and, very sadly family, to live incredible full lives. I have a past client's wedding to go to in May :) I get to witness my clients live the lives they've always wanted and I'm a small part of that. I absolutely love my job.
Our first session is actually not a session, but rather a meeting. It's our intake meeting in which I'll be asking a ton of very private, personal questions so that we can write your treatment plan together. It's an absolutely horrible way to get to know each other, but I try so hard to not make you feel rushed. BE PREPARED... there's a ton of information gathering in a very, very short period of time. Good news, you already know all the answers. No studying required :)The goal of this session will be to find out what brought you to therapy and what your ultimate treatment goals are. PS: I will very likely always come to each and every session with either a mug of coffee or a huge cup of ice nuggets to chump on so it's only fair that you feel free to bring something to shove into your mouth as well. Sessions should always feel comfortable. I'm a huge fan of pajamas. Just saying...
My greatest strength as a therapist is my use of humor. If you're looking for an analyst who will "uh-huh" you to death, that is absolutely not me. I'm funny, I'm light, I'm a story teller, I might cry with you. I've been there-done that. I truly believe that every great therapist must have their own therapist. Well, I do and I keep her busy! Believe me, you want a therapist that's been through the ringer. Then you'll have someone who comes from a place educationally and personally. That's my opinion at least. I've found that therapists who have never been through therapy just can't relate. I feel like I need a therapy appt after I finish brushing my teeth in the morning. Geez.
I have to say that a special part of my heart goes to the teenaged transgender popular. That population I have worked with for a very long time and absolutely love. Teenagers, 15 and older, I LOVE working with. Also, being gay myself, anyone who identifies as LGTBQ is part of my extended family and an absolute please to work with. I feel the same way about Jews, everyone suffering with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, post-partum, parenting skills and major life transitions.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Life can be hard and messy. Sometimes we get stuck and only use our own voices and perspectives when trying to navigate our way through. The problem is, when we only have ourselves as a sounding board, we tend to only receive the same insights over and over again. Sometimes having a new perspective can generate new ideas which can possibly change everything. I believe that change occurs through a strong therapeutic relationship and developing rapport and trust is my first priority. We all face challenging times. I have learned that we all cope with stressors in various ways. My goal is to help you develop coping strategies to successfully work through any challenges you may be facing. I hope to work with you to shape your personal therapeutic goals and throughout sessions to develop solutions in order to achieve your desired outcomes. My specialty is working with teens and young adults in the LGBTQ community. I also work with young adults who are struggling with transitional life decisions and anyone who is suffering with anxiety and/or depression.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
Sometimes the feeling of overwhelm is so strong that we become stuck and aren't able to see the way out when there typically is one. If we can look at an existing problem differently, turn it upside down, shake it from left to right, most times we'll be able to find paths we didn't see before. With new paths there are new solutions.

Thank you for a great first session! I was a little nervous since I've tried finding therapy as an adult and it was THE WORST. You made it very easy to talk to! I'm looking forward to future sessions. ^-^

I have difficulty finding providers that I can connect with in any meaningful way. I've invisible disabilities & often get told I'm a problem in therapy, & need to change things about myself that I'm not able. It can be distressing. Remi's been kind, understanding, & human like no other clinician I've worked with in the past. I feel heard & seen, & able to discuss my needs & process my issues without fear of judgement & receive feedback/challenges to improve life. I'm gaining skills to be happy.
