(he/him)
I am a highly accomplished Licensed, Marriage, and Family Therapist with over 28 years of experience in managing challenging behaviors and helping individuals with ongoing significant social/emotional skill deficits, and/or mental health needs. Along with working with youth from many cultures and economic backgrounds, I also have over 20 years’ experience supervising and managing adults in the education field. My years of experience working for school districts, private practice settings, group homes and currently as a mental health administrator provide clients with a clinician who has a broad range of experience.
My intake sessions are all about me getting to know the client and the client getting to know me. The first session works as a way of building a foundation, however, the first session is just the beginning. I also view the first session as a way of me seeing the future with the client and I immediately begin seeing how I will work with the client into a place of being self-sufficient.
My greats strength is my ability to go wherever the client is, in other words I do not try and move the client, I attempt motivate the client to move themselves. Treatment is all about the client so I attempt to be as balanced as I can to provide the client with the best possible journey.
While I am effective with a broad spectrum of clients, I have worked with troubled youth for the past 28 years. I have worked in programs tailored for very challenging and defiant teens. I also have specialized training in working with groups such as anger management, and domestic violence offenders. My practice is unique because I specialize in helping clients with family dynamics and developing strong relationships.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I currently work mostly with clients using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (CBT). I use CBT to assist clients with understanding how their thinking affects their feelings and how feelings affect behavior.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I work with clients with trauma with the understanding of how culture can play a role how humans view and work through trauma. Our world can be very difficult to navigate through from a cultural lens and culturally sensitive therapy will assist with seeing culture as a beautiful part of life.
Eclectic
I currently move between Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I use different approaches according to the needs of the client.

Chad is incredible to say the least. He brings a grounded, down-to-earth presence that immediately puts you at ease. He truly listens, without judgment, and responds in a way that feels thoughtful, direct, and genuine. Our sessions have helped me gain clarity, set better boundaries, and navigate difficult situations with more confidence. You can tell he genuinely cares about his clients and the work he does. I always leave feeling more centered, understood, and equipped.

We like how Chad Petties was able to speak on some things without it being said. Chad Petties was able to communicate to us on a level for both of us to understand. We enjoyed our session with Chad Petties.

Our first session with Mr. Chad W. Petties was warm and comfortable. I've never gone to therapy before so I didn't know what to expect but for the 1st session, I felt comfortable in expressing the issues in my relationship to him and would like to continue.
