Part of what led me to become a therapist was my own experience of how difficult it can be to find meaningful, accessible support when you need it. Navigating my own mental health journey helped me recognize the importance of having someone who truly listens, understands, and shows up consistently. I became a therapist because I wanted to be that person for others, to help ensure people don’t feel alone or unsupported when they’re seeking help. Throughout my life, a wide range of personal and professional experiences have shaped who I am today and strengthened my ability to genuinely connect with others. I worked in a community mental health agency, where I gained extensive experience across multiple areas of mental health. Although the work was demanding, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve individuals in various capacities and settings. That experience helped shape my clinical foundation and reinforced my commitment to this field. Along the way, I have learned to embrace my own neurodivergence and mental health experiences and use them as sources of insight, self-awareness, and strength. I am a mother of three children, and my experiences as a parent have deeply shaped my understanding of resilience, advocacy, and emotional complexity. My oldest child is also neurodivergent and lives with complex congenital heart disease, which has required multiple heart surgeries. These experiences, along with navigating remarriage and a second journey through IVF, have given me a profound appreciation for uncertainty, grief, hope, and perseverance. They have also strengthened my capacity to sit with others through difficult, vulnerable, and emotionally layered experiences. I share this to give you a sense of who I am and how I approach therapy, and to reflect the values of presence, compassion, and authenticity that guide my work with clients.

“Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” — C.S. Lewis. I believe we all have the ability to heal and transform our lives - and we all have a unique path to get us there. Let’s discover your deepest truths together so that your heart and mind may be renewed and you might live more abundantly. If you're willing to do some work, I will work hard to create a safe space for you, and we can collaborate on this journey together. I have Master's degrees in Counseling and Religious Studies, so I can incorporate spiritual guidance into counseling if you would like(completely optional). I also have training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and worked previously as a hospital chaplain which was an incredible experience. However, I'm proud to say that I have formed wonderful relationships with clients of all bends, and even of no particular faith background. I have respect for all faiths and traditions as long as they are life-giving. "You shall know [Your] truth, and it shall set you free."

Born and raised in the inner city by a single mother and a large extended family, I noticed the needs of those that were mentally or physically diagnosed were often not met. Therefore, I began to inquire about what I needed to do in order to be a part of the solution. I began to work in the field and I have worked in Behavioral/Mental Health for close to 20 years. My experience covers a plethora of ages and diagnosis across many settings. My determination to treat and support those with mental health diagnosis during the pandemic inspired me to perform outpatient therapy via telehealth to adults and adolescents. I specialize in adults 25-55 with various diagnoses but primarily Anxiety, PTSD, trauma and Depression to name a few. Hello! I am Wendy Theriot,MA,LPC. I spent years specializing in trauma-focused therapy and have worked in the private practice setting as well as treatment facility setting. This year I have taken a break from in-person therapy where I specialized in EMDR to more of a person-centered approach addressing men’s issues, as well as working mainly with with First Responders, Veterans, Active Duty personnel as well as couples. I guide the client in the direction of healing or self actualization incorporating Cognitive Processing , Jungian therapy and Attachment-Based therapy. “Jungian”refers to the psychological doctrines and analytical therapy developed by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. It helps to uncover hidden forces driving human behavior by integrating the conscious and unconscious mind, ultimately striving toward authenticity and personal wholeness. Attachment Based therapy is a form of counseling that explores how your early childhood relationships with primary caregivers shape your adult attachment style. In addition to individual therapy I have worked with couples using the Gottman Method. It is a structured, research-based approach to couples therapy developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. It aims to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy and respect, and remove barriers. If you are seeing me through an EAP or have a limited amount of therapy sessions I also do Solution Focused Brief Therapy where we don’t look at the past as much as we look towards the future and what you want to envision. With my help you can get there.

Feeling overwhelmed by day-to-day life is something many people experience, and counseling can provide a supportive space to work through those challenges. My goal is to offer a nonjudgmental, empathetic environment where we can identify your goals, work toward them together, and regularly evaluate your progress. I especially enjoy working with individuals living with chronic illnesses, as well as partners, family members, and caregivers who may also need support but often hesitate to ask for help. I also work with people who have been falsely accused and may be navigating stress, uncertainty, isolation, or difficult emotions that can feel overwhelming to manage alone.

Have you ever wondered, “What is wrong with me?” If your mirror can talk back to you, what would it say? What good things or bad things will it tell you and how would you respond? I will be the mirror that will help you learn more about yourself and will give you an honest reflection so that you can make the best decisions for yourself. I tailor my counseling approach based on your specific needs and goals. I combine a person-centered counseling approach with brief solution-focused therapy to give you the best outcome. I have a master’s in counseling with a dual emphasis on both School Counseling and Agency Counseling. I have over 17 years of counseling experience with all age groups, diverse populations, and subject matter. You don’t have to do life alone. Bring me your challenges, your struggles, and your troubles, and let’s work together to resolve them. I also provide Christian counseling: God never promised us a life free from struggles, pain, or sorrows (John 16.33); however, He did promise that He will never leave us (Matthew 28.20). Life is not meant to be lived alone: It’s not a good thing (Genesis 2.18). I am here to support you and to remind you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139.13-14), and you are loved (John 3.16). Nothing is impossible with God (Matthew 19.26). Whatever you are struggling with, whatever troubles you, know that God has a purpose for your life (Romans 8.28). As a Christian counselor, you can trust that my counseling approach will not stray from the teaching of the Bible. May God guide us as we work together to understand His purpose and His plan for the challenges in your life.

Counseling is a second career for me. I am a Desert Storm era Navy veteran and spent twenty years in the business world as a successful sales manager. I have over thirty years of personal recovery experience and bring many tools to our sessions. I have done my own personal grief, anger, trauma and family of origin work so I can hold space for whatever your healing and recovery may require. I show up as my authentic self and tend to be very direct. If you are willing to do the painful work that healing requires, I may be a good choice as therapist for you. With both my own personal struggles with addiction and mental health challenges, I have empathy and respect for those willing to do the hard work of making changes.
