Greetings I am a licensed professional counselor with an extensive background working with children/adolescents and families. As a community leader I served in K-12 education for over 26 years and recently retired so that I could be more available to provide counseling. I am particularly passionate about working with those who experience anxiety, depression, anger, and grief as I have worked more specifically in these areas. I am licensed in Texas with years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, anger management, & motivation, self-esteem, and confidence. Additional areas of focus: Caregiver Issues and Stress, Chronic Pain Illness and Disability, Communication Problems, Control Issues, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Isolation / Loneliness, Life Purpose, Self-Love
In our first session together, we will get to know each other and introduce ourselves. I will ask that you complete the intake paperwork in the system along with a couple of other tools (prior to our first session). During the session, I will ask you to discuss the specific challenge that brought you to counseling, this will help me design a plan for our sessions.
My biggest strength is being able to connect with clients.
Carolyn Washington offers therapy covered by Medicaid - Superior HealthPlan, Superior HealthPlan (Managed Medicaid) and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that a person's thoughts influence their feelings, which the individual can learn to control. I commonly use this approach in practice in helping clients process their feelings and emotions and provide strategies and homework that influence a clients thoughts and behaviors.
I frequently use this approach in building a strong positive relationship with clients while providing an empathetic ear. In practice you will be provided activities that are designed to help you identify where your actual self and your ideal self differ; you are then encourage to change or accept yourself for who you are.
