Alesia Griffen
Hi, I'm Alesia, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama. Over my seven-plus years in the field, I've worked in college, community, outpatient, inpatient, and intensive outpatient settings, giving me a broad perspective on how to support people at different stages of life and levels of need. I work with both children and adults facing challenges like depression, anxiety, and major life changes, using cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and psychoeducation to help clients feel more equipped to navigate what they're going through.
First session
The first session is all about getting to know you and what matters most to you. I'll ask about what you'd like to gain from therapy, what your expectations are, and what's brought you here now. We'll review your intake information together, and I'll ask questions about your background, current stressors, past therapy experiences, and coping strategies. I also like to develop a safety plan with you, so that if you ever find yourself in crisis, you have a clear action plan in place. By the end of our first session, we'll have identified a key stressor and begun developing your therapy goals. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and see if we feel like a good fit before diving into deeper work together.
Strengths
I create a warm, comfortable space where clients feel at ease to be themselves. My approach is person-centered and rooted in a belief in self-efficacy — clients set the pace, and their concerns and goals lead the way in session. I bring a direct, positive, and holistic style to our work together, with an emphasis on helping clients find balance in their lives, often starting with self-care. My goal isn't to hand you answers — it's to help you build a solution and a path forward that's truly your own.
Ideal clients
I work best with young adults and adults facing a range of concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, stress management, and family issues. If you're looking for support in navigating life's challenges in a way that feels both productive and safe, you're in the right place. Therapy isn't just about what we talk about in session — it's also about what you do with it once you walk out the virtual door. My ideal client is willing to try new coping strategies, practice communication skills, and build self-care habits between sessions. That's why I meet each client where they are, working at their own pace toward the concerns and goals that matter most to them.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and I often blend it with Solution-Focused Therapy. Together, we use tools like thought records and behavioral activation to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns and build momentum toward small, achievable actions. Rather than focusing solely on the problem, this combined approach helps clients reframe distorted thoughts while also identifying practical solutions and strengths they already have to move forward.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients shift their focus from what's going wrong to what's already working and what they want their future to look like. Rather than dwelling extensively on the problem itself, we explore your strengths, past successes, and exceptions — times when the problem was less present or absent altogether — to identify what's already helping. I often use tools like the miracle question and scaling questions to help clients envision their goals more clearly and measure progress along the way. This approach works well alongside CBT, helping clients move toward practical, achievable change rather than staying stuck in analyzing the problem.
