Hello, I'm Niki. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you struggling yourself, or maybe your teen is concerning you? Let's talk, and we can work together to find solutions. I help others to find patterns in their lives that are keeping them stuck, and find ways to become unstuck. We'll find what is working and build on your strengths. We'll also find what isn't working, and develop a plan that's right for you. I'll teach you ways to calm your body and your brain, slow down thoughts to bring clarity, and develop better ways to act or respond to the stresses around you.

I have been practicing as a licensed psychotherapist and clinical social worker for over 25 years. Therapy is not a complicated process. We discuss expectations of therapy, identifying specific treatment goals and mapping out a plan. Our work takes place within the boundaries of a safe, corrective emotional relationship. Therapy works. It is about growth and evolution, and I repeatedly observe that there is great joy in embracing positive new behaviors based on this collaborative approach.

I love what I do as a Licensed Clinical Therapist. To me, there's no better job than showing people how to use their minds to work for them instead of against them by getting past their mental blocks and past traumas so they don't have to suffer any longer. Specifically, I work with two groups - couples and parents. Couples that aren't communicating very well that have lost that once special connection with their partner and parents struggling with their children's behaviors.

Dr. Susan Shipley practices clinical psychology and works with clients, both adults and children. You have found a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques and tools that will help you meet your goals and overcome those things holding you back. Let's work together! My clients often have challenges such as anxiety, depression, and grief. I've had experiences working with young adults with anorexia, and people with phobias, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive thoughts and other intrusive thoughts, and folks who may have an over dependence on another person, place or thing. Addiction and recovery are areas of my expertise. I'm a school psychologist familiar with children with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, developmental delays, and parents. Occasionally life challenges meet us at a particularly vulnerable time, and I work with people who have adjustment to such life changes, people who find they are severely co-dependent on others with addiction dependency, the alcoholic and drug dependent person. In addition, I've assisted those experiencing grief, including job loss. I'm an artist myself and a trained art therapist. I found, art making often speaks with more feeling and force than words alone. We will incorporate art if you choose. CBT works in a collaborative manner between the therapist and the client. Together, we can identify what's not working and get you back to balance. We'll use a whole self-approach, addressing your needs. I also integrate mindfulness, yoga, and art to help you develop a stronger relationship with others and most importantly yourself. You have found a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so you can overcome the hangups and habits holding you back. Let's work together!

I am a compassionate and dedicated therapist with over 30 years of experience in guiding individuals through life’s most challenging moments, including struggles with depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, family conflicts, and developing coping skills. I am deeply committed to empowering clients through a culturally and spiritually integrated approach that centers around the Alternative Christ-Like African Thematic Therapy (ACLATT) model. ACLATT is a unique therapeutic model I developed specifically to support Christian clients of African descent. It integrates Christian values with African principles, providing a holistic, culturally sensitive healing experience. This approach emphasizes identity, love, faith, and hope, helping clients recognize their God-given potential and fostering a strong sense of purpose. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, supporting them in reframing perspectives and developing practical coping strategies. My work is rooted in the belief that “Being precedes Doing”—by understanding one’s identity in Christ, clients are empowered to realize their gifts and purpose, which enriches their actions and overall well-being. Whether working with individuals, families, or couples, I am committed to helping clients achieve emotional healing, spiritual growth, and lasting transformation aligned with their cultural and spiritual values.

She believes there is incredible potential for healing and growth that emerges in a counselor's office. The late poet Maya Angelou quoted, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”. This quote holds a powerful message to those interested in a therapeutic relationship. There is no substitute in the act for good therapy. It is where vulnerability and courage cross paths. Therapy offers a safe place to take the mask off, and explore new ways to establish living healthily. Susan is passionate about healing communities and families. Susan's work is centered on our identity in Christ, meeting everyone at the cross, and offering an abundance of grace. Susan’s level of experience has over 10 years working in a therapeutic environment and counseling center. She offers an approach that integrates Christianity and the models of psychology. At her core, her interventions commonly used are attachment-based therapy, goal-setting, inner child work, differentiation, Core Emotions, DBT skills, mindfulness, modeling and EMDR trauma therapy. Susan's primary area of work has been focused on trauma. She is an EMDR level 2 therapist and has worked alongside victims of domestic violence, grief and loss, marital crisis, suicide, addiction, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and soul repair. She has worked extensively with both complex and single incident traumas. Susan has experience in youth leadership and mentoring. Susan is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, completed AAMFT 30-Hour Supervision training and is certified in pastoral care counseling for soul care, trauma and abuse, domestic violence, marriage and family counseling, children, and counseling for women. I have 31 years of experience providing counseling. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, stressing that what we think determines what we feel and what we do. For many reasons, people learn unrealistic or destructive thoughts that cause them problems in their lives. Therapy works towards more realistic thinking, and avoiding old and destructive thinking. As I like to say, "therapy is a conversation with a destination," and realistic thinking is that destination. While I am a Christian, I am not trained as a Christian Counselor. I am a "Counselor who is a Christian." My training is secular, and I regularly see people or all faiths, or none at all. I do not offer court ordered services, nor do I do assessments for custody, or any other legal purpose. Unfortunately, I cannot accept Medicare, or Medicare based plans. The world is changing, and more and more people are reaching out. I am seeing more men that have been in abusive relationships. There are also more people dealing with loss. Coming to my office is not like going to a big mental health clinic where you just another number on a spreadsheet. In my care, you are a person, and you'll be treated like one.

Hello. I look forward to working with you. My own background is one of growing up on farms, having little money and ambitious dreams. I did not know what it was but I knew I wanted to go to college and get out of the tobacco fields around me. My dreams came true. I ended up being a psychologist and a teacher, spending decades working in residential treatment then in schools, the last 13 years working with preschoolers and their families to prepare them to succeed in school. As a teacher, I taught many college and university courses as well as workshops, most recently to address grief and trauma. In the early 1990's, I felt led to live and work at or near the world center of Quakers called Pendle Hill in PA. There I studied and taught Arts and Spirituality while also serving as a Psychologist in nearby schools. I came to see the importance of Co-Creativity (creating together a piece of life we truly want to live for). My specialties in the Arts have been writing, visual arts and dancing/movement from a "no wrong way" perspective. I incorporate these into the therapy process as they become beneficial. For much of my life, I have also been engaged with my own therapeutic process. Having been the client for several years, gives me the perspective of what might be important to you as we work together, never assuming I know or forgetting to ask you. In our sessions, I want to hear about you, find our starting points and from there develop action plans each session to work on the goals needed to find the life you dream of and are willing to work toward.

Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people". Likewise, the importance of understanding one's family of origin and how this shapes our views of people and the world and impacts how we relate with people and navigate our world. Ideally, therapy has been shown to have the best outcomes when you feel like your therapist gets you. Therapy is a relationship, rather than a set of instructions. My approach is warm, interactive, practical, and empathic, and I draw from relational, feminist, trauma-informed, anti-racist treatment models. I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship, along with helping you contextualize your life experiences, honoring your expertise in your own life. I specialize in working with those that are struggling with issues around depression, immigrant identity trauma/issues, mood disorders, and family violence. I am also sex work friendly. Reaching out for help can be overwhelming. I hope to alleviate some of its challenges by creating a supportive, non-judgmental space, as my approach is collaborative and strengths based.

Hi, there, I'm Taffie - Thank you so much for talking with me! Sometimes it's hard to ask for help - and therapy is a great start! Therapy is not at all scary - often it is a conversation that opens up new thoughts and emotions. Are you looking for a safe welcoming place where you can just be? Be heard, be valued, be accepted exactly where you are? I invite you into my space to experience these thoughts and emotions. As a therapist, I incorporate different approaches which address a variety of mental health issues. I empower you to move forward in life in a way that is dynamic and nurturing. I have an unwavering belief that you can experience change based on your needs and goals. We can walk through challenge and fear together to help you create a fulfilling life. My specialties are relationships with family and other significant folks - such a crucial part of our lives. I also can address trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression and the fluctuations of our mood and emotions. I am always open to discussions of gender identity and sexual identity. I would like to listen as you articulate the issues you are dealing with at this time and help you find the direction you're looking for. It can be freeing to have someone listen, ask questions and make observations - because this time is about you. One of my favorite quotes is: "I am a lighthouse, rather than a lifeboat. I do not rescue, but instead help others to find their way to shore". If you are searching for the way to the shore, I can help.

Hello, and welcome! My introduction to the counseling field began while working within therapeutic group homes that served children through adults experiencing mental health struggles. This experience, both enriching and meaningful, inspired my interest in pursuing counseling. I was deeply moved by the varying degrees of challenging life experiences that we are all tasked with navigating and the ways we attempt to cope, gain insight from, and hopefully transform our adverse circumstances. I received my Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University and since, I’ve had the opportunity to assist a diverse range of clients in both inpatient treatment and outpatient therapy settings, and more recently, at a college counseling clinic at the University of Montana. Within these programs, I’ve helped clients address anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, academic challenges, relationships, identity changes, sexuality, and general life stressors. I am grateful that I can work to help individuals navigate the evolving nature of their lives by providing unconditional positive regard, encouragement, and supportive guidance.

I love what I do, and I know why I do it. Since 2007 my focus has been coming along side of people and assisting them with challenges they face in life to become the most authentic and genuine person they were meant to be. In my own journey I've come to accept and appreciate the gifts I've been given, even if they're seemingly unrelated. I love my work as a therapist and I will always be passionate about performing music. How the two coexist within me is the journey I'm on. My focus has been in becoming a better therapist each day ... but I also know I'll never stop playing guitar and performing music, it's part of who I am.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take Independence Administrators?

Yes! If you use Independence Administrators you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Independence Administrators you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
