Hayley Sweitzer
Hi my name is Hayley! I have been a therapist for six years and working in the mental health field for about ten. I enjoy building trusting relationships with my clients and using the therapy experience to help guide people into finding the answers they already have within themselves. My practice is practical, solution focused and fostered by a trusting safe place. I use a unique blend of interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy, Gestalt, Gottman relationship theory, dialectical behavior therapy and psychodynamics. I have received my basic training in EMDR trauma therapy (eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing) and can practice that therapeutic modality if it is clinically warranted.
First session
Our first session you can expect me to ask you questions about yourself and what you would like to work on in therapy. I make an attempt to be thorough and get a sound idea, through a biopsychosocial assessment, of how I can best help. I may ask you about previous therapy, psychiatric medications, depression/anxiety symptoms, trauma, illicit substance abuse and assess for bipolar and mood disorders through questionaries and symptom surveys and, most importantly, what your goals are!
Strengths
I care for the people I work with and am invested and attentive to their needs. I also value regular conversations with my clients to check in about how therapy is going, if the client is benefiting from the work we are doing together or whether a higher level of care of different type of behavioral health may be needed. I understand that I am not a good fit for everyone and there may be another provider who can better fit your needs. I believe that my relationship with the client is my greatest tool and I hope to make people feel safe and comfortable to share honestly.
Ideal clients
Adults or teenagers 16 years or older who are struggling with depression/anxiety or mood disorders. I enjoy working with clients who are going through major life adjustments or are just curious about reflecting on their past. Clients may feel therapy is most effective when they are engaging in care and willing to consider a different perspective. I also enjoy working with couples.
Treatment methods
Gestalt
Gestalt uses the experience of the client to help them gain awareness of what may be happening for them. The next step would be noticing anything that could get in their way of living a better quality of life based on what they are experiencing and sensing . Gestalt therapy focuses less on homework/measurement based outcomes and is more curious about the 'here and now' and letting what may be happening within relationships and experiences tell us about what is and is not working for my client.
