Do you ever feel like you know exactly why you do the thing, and then go right ahead and do the thing anyway? I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) ) with a passion for deep, philosophical discussions about meaning and purpose. I take a solution focused approach to therapy, emphasizing both self-exploration and the development of practical coping skills. Therapy with me is not just about talking, it’s about actively building tools to help clients manage emotions, improve relationships, and create meaningful change in their lives. I enjoy teaching coping strategies that empower individuals to handle life’s stressors with greater confidence and resilience.
I have practiced across a range of clinical and community settings, serving individuals, children, and families. My professional background includes work as a court-appointed special advocate coordinator and as a foster care social worker, as well as facilitating Parenting Through Change – Reunification (PTC-R) with parents working toward family reunification. I have provided care within a forensic psychiatric hospital, trained in a comprehensive DBT program, and delivered services in substance use intensive outpatient programs, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice.
Throughout these settings, I have supported clients navigating emotional dysregulation, trauma, and relational difficulties. My current practice focuses on adults, with particular attention to emotion regulation and strengthening the capacity to cope with life's challenges.
Hello, my name is Shondelle Johnson-Pugh. I am licensed as an LCSWC in the state of Maryland. Although I have worked with individuals and families for over 22 years. Most recently, I have been blessed with the opportunity to provide therapeutic services for the last five years. My background consists of providing services to those seeking support in the areas of maternal mental health, depression, relationship issues, improvement in self-esteem, and defining coping skills.
Services are provided via telehealth services only during selective evening hours. During scheduled sessions, clients can expect honest and supportive feedback on areas addressed in sessions. If you are looking for someone to bring energy and a sense of humor during sessions when needed, look no further. Together, we can find healthy solutions to the concerns that keep you up at night or keep you in a cycle of questioning what you should do next in your life. It is my hope that I can help plant a seed of hope in each person's life that comes to treatment, and eventually, that seed will grow into a strong fruit!
I’m a licensed professional counselor who works with adults navigating identity, relationships, ambition, and the internal pressure to “have it together.” Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, high-capacity individuals who appear stable and successful on the outside but feel conflicted, stuck, or emotionally isolated underneath. My role is to create a space where complexity is welcomed and nothing has to be simplified to be understood.
My background in mental health allows me to approach therapy with both clinical rigor and relational depth. I pay attention to patterns — in attachment, communication, shame, avoidance, over-functioning, and self-criticism — and help you understand how those patterns developed and why they made sense at the time. From there, we work toward updating them so they align with who you are now, not who you had to be in order to survive earlier chapters of your life.
I tend to be direct, engaged, and structured. I don’t believe in vague therapy that drifts without direction. At the same time, I don’t rush the process. Insight without application doesn’t create change, and action without understanding doesn’t create stability. We work toward both.

I believe our greatest gifts often live at the intersection of growth and giving, and I look forward to walking alongside individuals as they rediscover their strengths, gain clarity, and create meaningful change.

My practice is built on the belief that healing happens in connection with others. You may feel desperate, alone, and misunderstood. You feel like you are floating in the bottom of a lake and cannot see the light above you. Everyday, you feel like you are just going through the motions. If this describes you, then I may be the therapist for you. In my nearly twenty years of experience, I have helped people like you reach their potential and achieve the recovery that they needed. There is no set system or quick fix as others may promise, but I will walk down the road with you. My primary focus is on helping you deal with ambiguity. Often our thoughts and subsequently what we teach ourselves becomes rigid and fairly black and white. Using a pragmatic and authentic approach to therapy I try and help you be okay with things that are beyond your control and work with you to establish yourself as the protagonist in your own story. This is primarily accomplished through conversation and allowing you the client to guide the therapy in the direction it needs to go.
I’m a Licensed Certified Social Worker–Clinical. I am coming to you with 7 years of experience in the field. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and truly heard. Therapy with me is real, down-to-earth, and focused on what matters most to you. I offer affirming, culturally responsive care because your story, your background, and your experiences deserve to be fully seen and respected.

I'm a psychotherapist with 35-plus years of experience. After completing training in clinical social work and psychology at the University of Maryland (M.S.W., 1988) and Saybrook Institute (Ph.D., 1991), I began practicing as a family, couples and individual therapist. I have hosted on radio/podcasts, have written two books and thousands of self-help articles in my "Life's a Beach" column for nationwide Gannett media. I love working with clients in the here-and-now, and finding solutions to move forward with life. My primary goal is to help you help yourself. I will guide and coach you, not tell you what to do. Diagnostic labels are useful at times, but you are not your labels. I'm your thinking partner: We'll reason and think our way to what makes sense together.
I have lived a life much like most of my clients. I have experienced hardships and achievements, sadness and joy, and disappointment in myself and in others. For most of my life, I have been lucky enough to somehow “figure it out” on my own. At one point in my life, I made a commitment to myself that no one should have to “figure it out” on their own. We all need to have someone who is committed to helping us out when we are at our most vulnerable.

I work gently and collaboratively, creating a space where you can slow down, breathe, and explore what you’re carrying without judgment. As someone who has always shared my life with animals, I understand how grounding and healing those bonds can be, and I welcome clients who find comfort and strength in them too. My goal is to help you feel supported, understood, and empowered as you move toward a life that feels more steady, meaningful, and hopeful.
Outside of my work, I’m someone who finds joy in simple, grounding things. I love reading, spending time in nature, and making enthusiastic—but often less‑than‑successful—attempts at gardening. Building LEGO is one of my favorite mindfulness activities, and I enjoy attending local outdoor festivals, practicing quiet moments of mindfulness, and spending time with my pets, family, and friends. These parts of my life help me stay balanced, present, and connected, and they often inform the warmth and authenticity I bring into the therapy room.

I have been honored by each person that I’ve worked with as they have allowed me a windows view of their life and the issues each of them had. My thought on counseling is that the person seeking therapy and the therapist are a team and work together as a team to identify goals, find solutions and overcome the issues at hand.

With 26 years of experience in the mental health field, my background spans a wide array of treatment settings and diverse populations. My journey began in wilderness programming for adolescents, witnessing how nature and challenge foster powerful change. I then transitioned to residential programs for at-risk youth—including those with severe behavioral challenges and adolescent sexual offenders—and provided substance use treatment for youth and adults in detention facilities. I entered this field with a singular, clear purpose—to help people—and that remains my exact intention every day.

I work with adults and couples dealing with communication problems, relationship conflict, anxiety, trust concerns, life transitions, and feeling stuck in patterns that keep repeating.
My style is warm and conversational, but I'm also active in the process. I'll ask questions, challenge you when needed, and help you turn what we discuss into practical changes outside of therapy.
I am a Marine Corps Veteran, Army wife, a mother, and a former educator. I want to make it clear that I may not be the right therapist for everyone, and neither do I strive to be. I focus on finding solutions that work for you. I am not a "how do you feel about that" therapist. I am a reality therapist who can provide long-term help for various mental health issues. I am a faith-based therapist who believes in God, but ultimately, my passion lies in helping people, regardless of their beliefs. I am dedicated to helping others reach their full potential, regardless of their beliefs. I am a former school therapist, and for the last 6 years, I've been working with adults (basically, after my cohort of students graduated, about 60% wanted to keep me as a therapist, and I started working with both teens and adults). First of all, I love what I do and to witness the positive changes clients make in their lives as a result of choosing therapy to help them accomplish what they want. Often the goal is to achieve symptom relief so as to not be overwhelmed by anxiety, mood disorders or be better able to manage the challenges of ADHD. Sometimes there is not a specific outcome identified but a need for ongoing support for dealing with life transitions or difficult people. Sometimes clients use therapy as a confidential sounding board where they can talk to an objective outsider about situations and sort out their perspective. I offer various ways to see and respond to situations that might otherwise not be considered. Your opinion as a client is the most important one and I will also honestly provide mine when asked for. I believe therapy can actually be something that you can look forward to and an opportunity to learn new skills to use long after you discontinue, and we can even have some fun and laughs along the journey.
I am a dedicated and experienced therapist committed to helping individuals create meaningful and lasting change in their lives. I specialize in working with adults who are navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and relationship challenges.
My approach integrates solution‑focused strategies with cognitive‑behavioral therapy (CBT), offering practical tools and supportive guidance. In our sessions, we’ll work together to identify the goals you want to achieve, develop clear strategies for reaching them, and break those strategies into manageable steps that support your long‑term success.
I have a passion for helping individuals and couples navigate their mental health journeys. I offer virtual therapy sessions, making it convenient for you to receive support from the comfort of your own space. Fluent in both English and Swahili.
My journey to becoming a provider has been both personal and deeply meaningful. I have always been drawn to the idea of walking alongside others in their process of healing, growth, and transformation. For me, therapy is not just a profession—it's a calling. The ability to witness another person's story unfold, to hold space for their pain.
