New to Grow
I am Juliana Sarkodee a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I have been working with the deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing clients for over ten years, mostly in person until the pandemic led me to provide services online. I am glad that you are taking steps to address issues in your life and gain clarity on how to cope. I have worked with clients to identify anxious thoughts/ADHD symptoms/, depression/, stress/ relationship /self-esteem/ trauma/ grief, and identify coping skills they utilized in the past, and identify new coping skills in the short term and long term. My therapy style combines empathy with a strength-based, solution-focused approach. I believe this combination can be very useful with different types of challenges that people face, and I am happy to work with them.
The first session will be spent talking about your issues and how you are coping with them. It will include building a therapeutic alliance and creating goals for future sessions, as well as defining a diagnosis impression.
My greatest strength is that I utilise a holistic, eclectic, and compassionate non-judgmental approach and consider the client the expert of their own issues.
My goal in therapy is to make a meaningful difference in your life by instilling hope, no matter the challenges you face. I work with hearing and Deaf clients, creating an inclusive, supportive space where you can feel understood. Together, we’ll explore your strengths, challenges, and goals to foster healing and growth in a way that works for you. I help clients navigate challenges such as anger management/impulse control, trauma, grief, stress, relationships, anxiety, family issues, and depression. Whether you’re facing life transitions or deep-rooted struggles, I’m here to support your healing journey. My approach is flexible because therapy isn’t “one-size-fits-all”—it’s tailored to your unique needs and experiences. You can expect a genuine, open conversation where your concerns are heard and validated. Many of my clients describe our dialogue as “authentic” and focused on what matters most to them. I’ll gently challenge unhelpful beliefs, explore different perspectives, and introduce coping strategies—always respecting your right to make your own choices.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for cognitive diffusion, to bring the client to the present and assist the client in facing the current situation. I use the Leaves on a Stream to help clients send negative/ anxious thoughts away on a stream or ocean. This sometimes helps clients to sleep.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use it to assist clients in identifying negative thoughts and use cognitive restructuring to counter negative beliefs and thoughts. I problem-solve with clients and practice new skills.
Trauma Informed Care
I create a safe place for clients to process their trauma and narrate it. I provide psychoeducation on trauma responses, affective regulation, and relaxation.
