I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health field for over 15 years providing an array of mental health services to clients. I currently provide therapeutic services for adults, couples, and families. I am also trained as a forensic interviewer and work with victims of Sexual Abuse. I also work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and personal crises. I have been trained in various psychotherapy models such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Trauma therapies. I make every effort to understand my clients' needs and to help them work through challenging situations. I strongly believe in the value of therapy and the impact it has on helping heal past traumas and anxieties. I am here to support and guide you through the healing process so that you can live the life you choose to live. Joy-Ann also utilizes faith-based methods for clients who prefer therapy from a Christian perspective

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first therapy session, clients can expect a comprehensive process that focuses on introductions, building trust, gathering information, and establishing treatment goals. The therapist will create a safe space for the client to share their concerns, assess their emotional well-being, and collaboratively develop a treatment plan. By actively engaging in therapy from the onset, clients can lay the groundwork for a successful therapeutic journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a mental health therapist lie in my communication skills, empathy, adaptability, and knowledge of therapeutic techniques. These strengths enable me to establish a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients, creating a safe and supportive environment for their healing and growth. By continuously honing these strengths and staying committed to professional development, I strive to provide the highest level of care to those seeking mental health support.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past eight years. Utilizing CBT techniques in my practice has proven to bring numerous benefits to my clients. Some of these advantages include: Improved self-awareness: CBT encourages individuals to identify and challenge negative thought patterns, leading to a greater understanding of their emotions and behaviors - Example: By using cognitive restructuring, clients learn to recognize irrational beliefs and replace them with more realistic and positive thoughts.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

In my experience as a therapist, I have found that utilizing mindfulness-based therapy has been immensely beneficial for my clients. By integrating mindfulness techniques into my practice, I have witnessed significant improvements in clients' overall well-being and their ability to cope with a wide range of mental health issues.

Motivational Interviewing

Utilizing motivational interviewing in my practice has proven to be a highly effective approach. Through active listening, open-ended questions, reflective statements, affirmations, and decisional balance, I have successfully integrated this technique into my therapeutic repertoire. Ultimately, the power of motivational interviewing lies in its ability to empower clients, enhance their commitment to change, and facilitate long-lasting results.

Psychoeducation

Incorporating psychoeducation into my practice has proven invaluable in empowering clients to take an active role in their mental health management. By providing them with relevant information, practical strategies, and ongoing support, psychoeducation enhances their understanding, self-management, and overall well-being. As practitioners, embracing psychoeducation allows us to make a lasting positive impact on our clients' lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

In my experience as a therapist, I have found that Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is an incredibly effective approach to help clients achieve their goals and overcome challenges. By focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems, SFBT empowers clients to make positive changes in a shorter period of time. Utilizing Solution Focused Brief Therapy in my practice has proven immensely beneficial for clients seeking rapid progress toward their goals. By incorporating a high number of transition words, using active voice, and maintaining sentence variety, I create an engaging and effective therapeutic environment. By adhering to these principles, I have witnessed significant positive transformations in my clients' lives.
