Hello! Does it seem overwhelming to be searching for a therapist for yourself? I get it! My name is Sonja (rhymes with "lasagna"). I enjoyed working with children and their families for 15 years, and then I transitioned to the medical field, where I was blessed to continue my growth within a variety of settings. My husband and I have one spoiled dog, Bo, a boxer-hound mix, who brings lots of laughs to our home. My specialties include working with adults (age 18+). I can help people who are dealing with symptoms of anxiety and/or depression find ways to cope. Those who are struggling with adoption issues may need extra support and assistance as they sort through their feelings. Caregivers who are feeling overwhelmed with life can find a peaceful place to land during our sessions. I particularly enjoy providing Christian-based counseling, as that is an important part of who I am. I believe that laughing about life with my patients can help us explore together what may be on their hearts and minds. NOTE: I can offer in-person sessions on a very limited basis in an office in Orange Park, FL, but I am primarily utilizing the telehealth format. You must be in a setting that is private and has stable internet for our telehealth sessions.

Growing up in a Latino culture, I developed a curiosity about people both within my community and beyond. This curiosity has driven me to understand the reasons behind our behaviors, both positive and negative. Throughout my career as a therapist, I continue to learn and grow, drawing from the vast knowledge available in the field. I am deeply committed to helping my clients embrace their true selves, regardless of their personality traits—whether they are humorous, quiet and shy, hesitant to trust, or feeling frustrated with the world. I believe that everyone is welcome in my practice. Recognizing that none of us are perfect and that we are all striving to make sense of life’s complexities, I focus on exploring my clients’ experiences with respect and understanding. My name is Mary Vaughan and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the state of Florida. I have been in the mental health business for 35+ years. I love my work and that is the reason have stayed in it as long as I have. I am a military brat and I have moved around in Europe and many states. Before I begin to work with a client, I tell them some of my background. It is my opinion the client should know something about his/her counselor before we begin our work. I have had very successful results working with people who suffer from some kind of abuse ( either in childhood or as a young adult.) If abuse has occurred at most any age, the individual may come to me and tell me that they are experincing stress, depression, anxiety and/or panic attacks. Before beginning counseling, I inform the client that we will have a questioning and answer process. This allows the client and me to get to know each other a little better. Based on the information I gather about my client, we discuss what the client wants from their sessions. The individual and I work together as a team. In this process, the client gains a sense of self-esteem and a sense of control over their lives going forward in the future. Finding the right "fit" of counselor and client is key to a successful experience for the client. After the counselor gives the client some unique coping skills, the counselor asks the client if these skills might work for them. These coping skills are "Fluid" and can be modified and changed as we proceed in the counseling process.

With a Masters in Psychology from the Florida International University, I am currently licensed as a Mental Health Counselor and practicing in the State of Florida, where I hold both in-person and virtual sessions. My clients have a wide range of needs, so I tailor my sessions to them. As a result, they benefit from different treatment methods depending on the situation, such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), which addresses negative thinking, or mindfulness, which focuses on the present moment. I also have a number of tools that can facilitate deeper learning and change within your sessions. With several years of experience treating a wide range of mental health issues, I'm sure we can establish a good therapeutic relationship. In addition, I have extensive experience working with clients who have experienced complex trauma, such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, incest, or who have suffered from serious illness. I also have experience with anxiety disorders, marital issues, acculturation, and adjustment disorders.

Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. I specialize in integrative individual and couples therapy for the mind and body. My perspective on therapy starts with the central belief that if you listen to your clients, they will always tell you what's going on. While that may seem very basic, unfortunately, there is very little listening going on these days. When we are listened to and are unconditionally respected and accepted, we instinctively have the right stuff inside of us to figure out our issues. That's how we become empowered . That's how we grow. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming anxiety, relationship issues or depression. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion, understanding and respect. And I will use the latest evidence-based techniques to support you in your journey Helping you find that inner strength and resolve is what makes me uniquely qualified to help.
