Hello! My name is Yolonda, but I prefer to go by Rhonda. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida and graduated from Florida State University. I specialize in individual, family, and group therapy for Deaf/Hard of Hearing, people with disabilities, AND hearing individuals. I have provided group therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy in residential treatment programs, psychiatric hospitals, forensics, community mental-health agencies, school settings and private practice settings.
In our first session together, we’ll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you’re facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. This is a great time for you to ask questions and go over expectations in therapy.
I create a safe, relaxing environment and I start where the client is at with an open mind and non-judgemental attitude. I use several approaches depending on the client such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, Behavioral Focused Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy etc. teaching a variety of techniques such as positive self-talk, visualization, grounding, breathing techniques, restructuring negative thoughts, and much more. I strive to help my clients feel empowered, develop better communication skills, stronger relationships, healthier coping skills, positive thinking, improved self-esteem and self-image.
I am laid back and easy to talk to and try to make the environment more comfortable and less clinical. You will find that I offer a wide range of office hours to include late evenings and weekends to benefit those who are in need of those times and keep engaged with my clients through all efforts. I have worked most of my life with people with a variety of disabilities helping them to come to terms with new diagnosis and be able to adjust. I have been a Sign Language Interpreter for 25 years and decided to join the field of Social Work 9 years ago to be able to conduct therapy, advocate, and assist with policy changes for underserved populations. I have also worked in K-12 settings and college settings for 25 years and am knowledgeable regarding student issues and academic needs.
