Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows; it can be filled with challenges, difficulties, and hardships. I believe that life is all about perspective and the way we react to problems. Our trials and tribulations are opportunities for us to grow into stronger and wiser individuals. When challenges arise, most people ask, "Why?" I encourage my clients to change their mentality by asking, "How?"—how can I use this to grow and learn, make myself smarter and wiser?" I am a firm believer in empowering clients with the tools and knowledge needed to live a more fulfilling and productive life. With 8 years of sobriety and personal experience battling my own challenges, I know how helpful therapy can be in helping a person rebuild their life and become the person they want to be.

Question: "In what way is a therapist like a pair of shoes?" (Read on for the answer) You deserve to be listened to without judgment, criticism or having to defend yourself. My role as a bilingual (English, Spanish) therapist is to be an active partner providing a non-judgmental environment focusing on your strengths and goals, thus readying you to move in the direction you desire. I provide an integrated approach in a warm, compassionate and supportive setting with creativity and humor. I enjoy delivering services to children, adolescents, and their families. I focus on a variety of issues that include behavioral problems, depression, anxiety, school-related problems, parent-child relational discord and breakdown in communication. However, my practice is not limited to these situations. Sometimes life events become overwhelming. It is good to know there is someone you can trust that gives unconditional positive regard and solution-focused interventions to ease and/or eliminate the stresses you encounter. I am here for you! Answer: "The therapist has to FIT you!"

With a deep passion for breaking the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health, I have dedicated the last nine years to assisting individuals who grapple with the complex interplay of mental health issues and underlying substance abuse. My mission is to empower them with coping skills and strategies that allow them to embrace a life of recovery and resilience. As a therapist, I focus on guiding patients towards building essential skills to overcome their challenges. I believe that mental health issues come in myriad forms, and it is our duty to provide support, unburdened by negative stereotypes and judgment. Greetings, You may have read through a few profiles, and I owe you to feel the difference with mine. My name is Brahm, well, actually it is Robert Abraham Fay, my parents were hippies, so you can see where that went. Life can be difficult, and I know this first-hand. By the age of 17 I was in a homeless shelter (due to a violent alcoholic stepfather), and I had some people help me along the way. Vocational Rehabilitation helped me get a bike, and I rode to Valencia College for 2 years, was recruited to Rollins College on a grant, and attended grad-school at Troy University. I have taught upon resilience in: China, Russia, Germany, and the US. Here's what's up, of course life is difficult, and the more we run from it the more we suffer. All those years in homeless shelters taught me how to ask for help when necessary. I am a licensed clinician - perhaps trapped in a case manager's body. Counselors can provide a flashlight on all of the nooks & crannies of the past, but as your case manager, we are looking at a spotlight on your future. My job is to get fired. Plain and simple. If you are a member of a marginalized population, including all of my LGBTAQLatin+ Non-Binary, Sis, Pan, Poly & Unlabeled family, I see you and I love you. Let's find your voice, and then you can fire me! YAY!!! (confetti) That's the thrust of my existence, when I text you -- and you say, "Thank you for everything, Brahm, I think I've got this now." See? That's what's up.

Hi my name is Amy, and I first want to acknowledge how difficult and scary it feels to begin the process of therapy, either for the first time or starting with a new therapist. I take very seriously the enormous strength that takes and I work very hard to ensure that you feel safe and heard as we begin the therapeutic relationship. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 15 years of experience providing counseling in both inpatient and outpatient centers. I received my Master’s degree in counseling in 2008, from Webster University. I had the privilege of working in an inpatient eating disorder facility for five years and have continued that work in outpatient settings. I have a passion for connecting with teenagers, college students and career women to build a safe place with an adult where they can voice their feelings and experiences without fear of judgement. I also especially enjoy working with young adult women as they navigate their way through the process of beginning adulthood. I have experience with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and general women’s issue. I am especially passionate about working with CPTSD and PTSD. I have received training and supervision in working with trauma as it is a highly specialized field. Trauma survivors need validation, belief, compassion and acceptance first and foremost before a trusting relationship can be established. I have working with women exiting a toxic relationship, having endured narcissistic abuse and/or infidelity (betrayal trauma) which is many times misunderstood by well-intentioned people. My approach is warm, compassionate and highly empathetic as I work to establish a safe environment for healing to take place.

I’m Micheal Franklin, and my journey into therapy began in a blue-collar family where my relatives worked in textile mills, battery plants, and furniture factories. Growing up, I aspired to carve a different path, aiming to be the first in my family to earn a college degree. I graduated from Western Piedmont Community College in Drug and Alcohol Technology and earned an Associate in Arts in 1996. I then continued my education at Gardner-Webb University, obtaining my Bachelor’s in Science in Human Services. Recognizing that the job market wouldn’t provide enough financial stability, I joined the Marines in 1998. During my service, I got married and welcomed a baby boy, which motivated me to seek part-time work with troubled adolescents and teens facing addiction issues. After leaving the Marines in 2003, I worked in a group home for adolescents and later became a Prevention Supervisor for adolescent substance use treatment. I also served as the lead treatment therapist for a Men's Intensive Outpatient Program at the Cognitive Connection in Hickory, NC. My passion for helping others led me to teach parenting classes and collaborate with Child Protective Services. I pursued my Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of West Florida while gaining experience in Community Mental Health. I also worked in a drug court program for two years. Since becoming licensed in 2014, I have dedicated my career to supporting clients dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, personality disorders, and life transitions.

One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Whether it’s learning techniques to combat anxiety, stress or depression, or addressing and overcoming trauma and PTSD. Perhaps you have a child that is struggling in school, a teen that won’t open up to you, and you’re looking for someone they can talk to. Maybe you just need someone to truly listen and to hear you, to walk with you as you take these next brave steps. My approach when it comes to therapy is integrative and person centered. I believe that each of my clients is the expert in their own life and no one person is the same, therefore I pull from several different approaches (integrative) based on client need. I would be honored to walk with you on your path to mental wellness. Contact me today to begin your journey.

I would describe myself as a goofy and radically empathetic therapist that struggles with severe ADHD and also anxiety. Not to mention the grief! I am big on being vulnerable myself. We must lead by example. I also am a strong believer in the power of connection. If you cannot connect with your therapist, research says that therapy is not likely to be effective. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship above all else. That is my foundation. That means I pride myself on not being a robot. I cannot believe I have to say this, but many students in therapy have told me that they have had robotic therapist. That is not me. I believe the most powerful therapeutic techniques are empathy and unconditional love, and those are the values I do my best to display consistently. I currently provide individual counseling to students at Miami Dade College and I have found that I really enjoy working with college students that recently graduated from high school. I find that the world treats them cruelly at such an overwhelming time of their lives and they deserve unconditional love, not tough love.

If you can read this, you made the first step. Congratulations. Seeking therapy is hard. Most people delay and tell themselves that whatever they are experiencing must be the way life is. Chances are if you have reached the point to begin exploring therapy, counseling can help make your life better. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. In that time I have worked with men, women, teens, and families on a wide variety of issues. Sometimes that work simply involved helping them through a particular incident or life change that overwhelmed them. Other times our work together centered around longstanding issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. I believe that you cannot laugh without a combination of insight and relief. You can expect some humor in most sessions. In addition to traditional cognitive behavioral therapy, I also offer a fourth-wave therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I have found this technique to be highly effective in helping people with trauma and or anxiety. Our minds and bodies are connected. Anyone who has experienced a tight neck and shoulders or an upset stomach when they were stressed knows this. EFT uses acupressure (done by the client) and cognitive interventions to provide fast and effective relief. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I am ready to help you through the challenges you are facing. In addition to counseling, I also provide vocational testing, coaching, and consulting. I provide both Christian and secular counseling depending on the needs of my clients.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Florida rather than a city like Tampa?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Florida from Miami to Jacksonville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Florida.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Suicidal Ideation?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Suicidal Ideation, is filtering therapists in Florida that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
