New to Grow
I believe in considering the whole person in their environment in treatment, including: intersectionality, unique lived experience, and intergenerational trauma. I am queer-affirming and encourage each client to embrace every part of themselves. Additionally, I have a passion for feminism, social justice, and healing from religious trauma. I have education and experience in the Health and Human Services field in addition to Child Welfare and Family Systems. These experiences have taught me the importance of community and the healthy, supportive relationships that promote thriving mental health.
A first session is generally spent providing an assessment that will help me get to know you and what sorts of challenges you are facing that I may be able to assist you in navigating. Additionally, we will be reviewing any past experience a client has had in therapy and which interventions have been helpful or unhelpful in the past.
I utilize an eclectic variety of therapeutic methods, depending on what works best for the individual. I started my therapeutic training in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy. Additionally, I have received training in Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy.
I specialize in clients who are experiencing major life transitions, such as: grief, divorce, or major loss. I also specialize in religious trauma and assisting clients who are still in the process of leaving a high-control religion. I generally begin therapy utilizing a combination of Narrative therapy and Solution-Focused interventions, but have had training in a variety of therapeutic methods. For individuals who are suffering frequent and/or intense symptoms of trauma, I often utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I studied this therapeutic method during my time earning my undergraduate degree. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral techniques alongside other methods, mainly when it comes to reinforcing coping skills and reducing shame around trauma.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I do not provide full-scope Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but I have received training in providing this therapeutic method. I utilize many of the self-regulation skills that are recommended in the DBT manual, to assist clients in emotional regulation and grounding/mindfulness techniques.
EMDR
I am trained in EMDR, and have experience providing it both in-person and via Telehealth video-chat. I utilize other therapeutic techniques alongside EMDR, such as CBT and mindfulness/grounding techniques. I typically utilize EMDR for reduction of the frequency and intensity of Posttraumatic Stress disorder symptoms.
Feminist
I often incorporate Feminist therapy to focus on the unique experience and challenges of female/femme-presenting persons.
Narrative
I utilize Narrative therapy, particularly in early therapeutic sessions to assist clients in "telling their story," and identifying recurring themes and challenges they have faced throughout their life.
