I’m a licensed therapist with over a decade of experience helping people navigate anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, chronic stress, and health-related concerns. My approach is warm, compassionate, and integrative. I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely seen, understood, and accepted—not judged or placed into a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. I draw from psychodynamic, relational, cognitive, solution-focused, and coaching approaches, as well as my background in health coaching and nervous-system regulation. Rather than relying on one particular method, I tailor our work to you: your personality, your history, your goals, and what you need at this point in your life. I’m especially interested in helping people understand the patterns that may be keeping them stuck while also developing practical tools for creating meaningful change. My goal is not simply to help you “fix” a problem, but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, feel more emotionally grounded, and create a life and relationships that feel more aligned with who you are. For clients working with me in person, I may also incorporate neurofeedback or BAUD (Bio-Acoustical Utilization Device) therapy when appropriate. These brain-based approaches can complement traditional talk therapy and may be helpful for nervous-system regulation, anxiety, and reducing the emotional intensity associated with difficult or traumatic memories. I see these tools as another way to support the therapeutic process—not a replacement for the relationship and deeper work that happens in therapy.

I’m often asked, “What made you want to become a therapist?” The answer is simple: I genuinely enjoy helping others. I understand that life can be difficult because I’ve faced my own challenges along the way. My journey hasn’t always been easy, and therapy was an important tool that helped me find support, work through difficult experiences, and continue moving forward. I believe therapy is a journey, and you shouldn’t have to walk that journey alone. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, encouragement, and a safe space where you can be yourself, explore your thoughts and emotions, and work toward becoming the person you want to be. I’m passionate about helping children, teens, and adults navigate life’s challenges. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, life changes, relationships, trauma, or simply feeling stuck, I believe that change is possible and that everyone has the ability to grow. I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands and have worked in the mental health and child welfare fields for more than 30 years. My years of experience have given me the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and through many different challenges. Most importantly, those experiences have taught me the importance of meeting each person where they are and recognizing that everyone’s journey is unique. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me enjoying the outdoors, getting lost in a good book, or spending time with my energetic and adorable miniature schnauzer, Felix.

Welcome — I’m John Dyson, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), based in the foothills of North Carolina. I want you to take a moment to acknowledge that you’ve already taken the first step toward bettering your mental health. Let’s be honest — starting therapy can feel empowering, confusing, or even scary — sometimes all at once. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can explore concerns related to anxiety, depression, and self-care. I focus on helping clients build assertive communication skills and healthy boundaries, both with themselves and with others, in ways that support a more balanced, fulfilling life. Therapy is an opportunity for personal growth in whatever way you're seeking — whether that means navigating specific challenges or building the life you deeply deserve. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’m here when you’re ready. Together, we’ll clarify the challenges you’re facing and identify where you want to be — a month, six months, or a year from now. Then, we’ll explore actionable strategies to help you move forward. You'll leave each session with a clearer understanding of your situation and a set of “next steps” you can begin right away. There will always be space for feedback and collaboration in our work — including holding each other accountable as we walk this path together.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and in case you’re unsure of what that is, it means I have earned a Bachelor Degree in Social Work a Master of Social Work and once I completed Graduate school I was then required to complete 3,000 hours of clinical work experience under supervision for another two years after those supervised clinical hours I had to successfully sit for ASWB Clinial Level exam. Being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker not only means that I am passionate about Mental Health, but I am also focused on your environment, meaning I look at external factors that impact your situation. When I started Graduate School, I went in with the notion of studying Psychology until I came across the Social Work Program, after doing some extensive research into the profession, I decided that is what I wanted to do. I learned I can help individuals with their Mental Health as well as take a holistic approach to address any barriers they may face while working towards their goals. I absolutely LOVE being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and helping individuals reach goals they’ve set for themselves.

Hello, I am a licensed professional therapist in North Carolina. My experience has centered on working with diverse populations, from military-affiliated, college, and community behavioral health and private practice. Working within these settings has allowed my involvement with various ages, genders, cultures, and life experiences. My theoretical orientation is Constructivism; therefore, I need to understand my client's life perspectives and how that has influenced their worldview. In working with clients, I also practice an integrated approach using constructivism, person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, solution-focused therapies, and others. Person-centered focuses on the client and allows the client to process feelings and thoughts in a non-judgmental environment with unconditional positive regard. Cognitive-behavioral therapy focuses on the role of thinking in the process of influencing a person's feelings of well-being and how controlling thoughts can affect mental health. This approach maintains the link between emotions and behaviors in the cognitive process. The humanistic therapeutic method emphasizes the counseling relationship and the importance of quality, genuineness, positive regard, and empathy in the counseling relationship. Solution-focused therapy utilizes skills already present to help navigate current concerns, focusing on being present and checking facts on emotions and feelings that might direct reactive responses to stressors. Constructivism proves the space for cultural humility and openness to worldviews I might not have had the privilege to interact with previously.

I was raised in Memphis, TN and attended college in Nashville, TN where I received a BS degree. I got married while in college. We moved to Raleigh, NC after graduation. We've been married over 40 years. We have eight adopted children. I began working for the USPS once we moved to NC. After working there for 10 years, I realized that I wanted to change careers and fulfill the dream of helping others in a more practical way. I took a break from work and obtained a MA in Counseling. After receiving my LPC license, I worked in various settings within the counseling field. I have worked in Child Protective Services, worked for a couple of mental health clinics, held a private practice, worked in crisis intervention for 10 years in a hospital setting, returned to the clinic setting, and have once again opened a private practice. Hello, I’m a licensed therapist with over a decade of experience helping individuals build healthier, more fulfilling lives. I specialize in practical, evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, IFS and EMDR to help you better understand and manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My goal is to provide both insight and actionable strategies that support meaningful, lasting change and healthier relationships. I work with clients who are ready to grow as they navigate stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or major life transitions. You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next steps, but also motivated to better understand yourself and create a more balanced, intentional life. I value a collaborative process where we work together to identify patterns, build awareness, and develop tools that fit your unique needs and goals. My approach is warm, supportive, and results-focused. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and challenged in a productive way. Together, we’ll strengthen your ability to regulate emotions, improve communication, and respond more effectively to life’s challenges. Over time, this work can help you build confidence, deepen relationships, and move through life with greater clarity, resilience, and peace.
