I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist with more than 25 years of experience helping people navigate anxiety, trauma, relationships, grief, career and life transitions, and those seasons when life simply doesn’t look the way you thought it would. My approach is compassionate, practical, solution-focused, and collaborative. I’ll listen carefully and create a space where you can be completely yourself—but I’ll also ask thoughtful questions, offer honest feedback, help you recognize patterns, and give you practical tools you can actually use outside of therapy. Life experience has shaped me just as much as education and professional training. I’ve been married to my HS sweetheart for more than four decades, raised three children, experienced loss and grief, navigated career changes, family challenges, parenting, marriage, aging, and the many unexpected chapters that come with building a life alongside the people you love. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for resilience, relationships, humor, and the fact that none of us gets through life without a few scars and stories! My work is especially meaningful with adults and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting, first responder or military life, grief, major transitions, and questions about identity or purpose. I enjoy working with people who may appear capable and successful on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or exhausted from holding everything together. My therapy is holistic and individualized. Depending on what fits you, we may incorporate evidence-based approaches alongside mindfulness, humor, nature, animals, relationships, meaning and purpose, and faith or spirituality if that's valued. I believe therapy should help you understand where you’ve been without keeping you there. Together, we’ll focus on healing what hurts, strengthening what already works, and helping you intentionally build a life and relationships that feel authentic, meaningful, and with any luck a little lighter.

I believe in taking a collaborative, grounded approach to help clients achieve lasting progress. I am passionate about the therapeutic relationship I have with my clients and work alongside my clients as I would refer to as (sitting in the passenger seat and the client is the driver) by meeting the client where they are and allowing the client to take control of what they focus on in treatment and the pace of treatment.

Do you ever feel stuck? Do the negative beliefs you have ever hold you back—make you feel like you can’t move forward? Not sure what to do next? Sometimes life can throw you a curveball and when it does, I’m here to help. My name is Carol Poston. I’ve been a Marriage and Family Therapist for over 11 years. I have extensive experience with grief and loss with 8 years of experience as a hospice bereavement counselor and chaplain. I understand the importance of religious beliefs on personal development and growth. My therapeutic style is shaped by my hospice experience. Every moment is critical. It’s not simply the case of making the most of each moment. It is indeed that this moment, this day, this session, is the most important. Being present and bearing witness to my client’s pain in this moment is what matters. In our sessions we manage the urgent but focus on what is most important. You are the expert in your own life--I am the professional guide here to help navigate your way through this difficult time. My identity and therapy practice are highly intertwined as I always say "I am a human before I am a therapist". Yes I went to college and got a big degree but my general desire for my clients is for them to feel like they are sitting with an authentic human who has "been there before". I moved from my home in Eastern KY Appalachia to Louisville in 2019. Having this experience has shown me that there ain't much difference in the suffering people have in the country and the city. I believe that our current society and systems all too often force people into hard spots and then tell them to pull themselves up and keep it pushing. My goal in therapy is to slow things down to normalize for you that we are not working on "what's wrong with you" but instead "what happened to you". This allows you to feel safe enough with me to share the parts of your life/mental that even you don't want to address. That is when you start healing. Cause once you feel seen and supported, you feel empowered enough to figure out how YOU want to live (not how you have been told to). I describe this whole process as you are driving the car and I am riding "shot gun" just pointing things out and making suggestions! I find that my unconditional acceptance of clients, use of real world humor/experiences, and gently pushing for change allows us to start building the skills and strategies you need to live in this world as an authentic you. Another favorite saying of mine is "it's your world my guy I'm just living in it"!

Hey, I'm Melanie. I 've been practicing since 1998 and believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors for successful therapy. My style is warm, genuine, and down to earth. I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, knowing that they'll be treated with respect and without judgement. While I provide lots of support and encouragement, I also am willing to ask difficult questions and offer honest feedback when it's helpful.

I have approximately 30 years of experience in virtually all clinical settings. I began my career working in a juvenile penitentiary (referred to as a 'youth development center) and after almost 6 years, left that setting and moved on to new opportunities. Along the way, I worked with group homes, foster homes, substance abuse treatment programs, and even provided treatment in a sexual offender treatment program. In 2004 I went solely into private practice and currently operate two offices. I also provided on-site services to businesses that suffer a death or other disruptive event; I have provided over 170 of these services in four states during the last several years. While you don't need any faith to see me, I also offer Christian Counseling. Finally, I am a US Army veteran and understand the challenges and needs of veterans. I operate under a practical approach that seeks to build on a person's strengths to achieve realistic, measurable goals. I utilize primarily cognitive behavioral therapy and reality therapy to help my clients achieve their goals and to live life more fully.

Stay focused, know your "Why?" And fulfill your purpose. Anxiety, PTSD, and depression are some of the leading reasons people seek therapy. Anxiety, PTSD, and depression can keep people from being able to reach their best potential because they focus on what could go wrong instead of what could go right. Life experiences and circumstances inform anxiety experiences. It is so important to have healthy coping skills to deal with anxiety, PTSD, and depression, so you are not overwhelmed. I would love to help you learn healthy coping skills to effectively get through struggles you may be going through. Your "someday I will work on reducing my anxiety" can start today by booking your first therapy appointment to gain healthy coping skills. I work with adults through individual therapy seeking support for everyday challenges such as stress, work-life balance, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, ADHD, emotional regulation. depression, anxiety, PTSD, career goal setting, communication skills, or life transitions to name a few. My approach is solution-focused and action oriented, to help you gain strategies you can begin using right away. I also accept Amazon EAP clients. For clients who value Christian faith as part of their journey, I also offer the option to incorporate prayer and biblical wisdom into our work together. Sessions will take place ONLY on the Grow Therapy portal. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency call 911 or go to your nearest ER. Severe and/or frequently severe mental health needs are best served in an in person mental health therapeutic setting. Clients needing intense therapy, court ordered therapy, therapy dealing with legal related issues of any kind, or custody involved therapy are best served by local in person mental health providers and resources.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
