Hey, I'm Melanie. I 've been practicing since 1998 and believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors for successful therapy. My style is warm, genuine, and down to earth. I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, knowing that they'll be treated with respect and without judgement. While I provide lots of support and encouragement, I also am willing to ask difficult questions and offer honest feedback when it's helpful.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I try to make the first session as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We'll spend time getting to know each other, discussing what brings you to therapy, and exploring what you hope to accomplish. My goal is create a place where you feel heard and understood and comfortable moving at a pace that feels right to you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Over the years, I've learned that life rarely unfolds exactly as planned. Like many people, I've experienced significant unexpected challenges, loss, difficult life transitions, and periods of uncertainty. These experiences have reinforced my belief that growth is possible even during difficult times and have deepened my appreciation for the courage it takes to ask for help.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to work with adults and couples who are motivated to better understand themselves, develop practical solutions to life's challenges, and build healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. Many of the clients I serve are dealing with trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. Together, we identify realistic strategies that move clients toward the life they want.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I help clients identify their strengths and use them to develop effective coping skills to deal with their challenges. I also help my clients set and reach goals and feel empowered and confident in their ability to handle life's struggles.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I meet clients where they are and treat them with respect, compassion, and understanding regardless of their background, experiences, beliefs, or circumstances.

Trauma Informed Care

My experience working with individuals who have experienced abuse, neglect, family conflict, loss, and other adverse life events has reinforced the importance of approaching each client with sensitivity and respect. I provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgemental space where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

When appropriate, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients see connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT can provide useful tools for managing anxiety, depression, stress, and negative self-talk. However, I believe CBT is not one size fits all, so I work with clients to figure out which techniques best fit their needs, goals, and comfort level.
