New to Grow
Hi, I’m Angela Mullins, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Kentucky with several years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. My practice focuses on trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, and personal growth, using evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, CBT, IFS, and trauma-informed therapy. I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes and move toward greater emotional well-being, with faith-based counseling incorporated when desired by the client.
During our first session, we’ll take time to get to know one another, discuss what brought you to therapy, and explore the concerns or goals you would like to address. I’ll ask questions about your current experiences, relationships, history, and strengths so I can better understand your needs and how to support you. We’ll also discuss what you can expect from therapy and begin identifying practical steps toward your goals. Most importantly, my goal is for you to feel comfortable, heard, and respected as we begin building a therapeutic relationship together.
One of the greatest strengths I bring to therapy is the ability to create a safe, compassionate space where clients can be honest about what they are experiencing without fear of judgment. I believe healing happens when we are able to understand our emotions, process what we have experienced, and develop healthier ways of responding rather than simply trying to push difficult feelings away. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and individualized, drawing from approaches such as EMDR, IFS, CBT, and other evidence-based interventions. I meet each client where they are and work alongside them to identify what healing can look like for them. My guiding philosophy is simple: **“This is where we feel to heal.”** For clients who desire it, I also welcome the integration of faith into the therapeutic process.
My ideal client is someone who is ready to explore, grow, and participate in the therapeutic process—even if they aren’t exactly sure where to begin. I welcome clients who need a safe place to vent and be heard, while also helping them recognize when staying in the venting cycle may keep them feeling stuck. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and I am the passenger in the car—you decide where you want to go, while I help you read the map, identify possible stops, navigate detours, and discover destinations you may not have known were possible. My role is not to tell you where to go, but to walk alongside you, offer perspective and tools, and help you move toward the life and healing you desire.
I integrate Christian faith and biblical principles into counseling for clients who desire a faith-based approach to their mental health and personal growth. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the John Hobson Bible Training Center and am passionate about helping clients explore the relationship between their faith, emotional well-being, relationships, and life experiences. When appropriate and desired by the client, I incorporate Scripture, prayer, and faith-based perspectives alongside evidence-based therapeutic interventions. My goal is to support clients in drawing upon their faith as a meaningful source of hope, healing, resilience, and personal growth while maintaining a clinically grounded and client-centered approach.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and understand how these patterns may contribute to distress. I work collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop more balanced perspectives, and practice healthier behavioral responses. Depending on the client’s needs, I may incorporate cognitive restructuring, coping skills, behavioral activation, problem-solving, and practical between-session strategies to support lasting change.
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients identify strengths, resources, and practical solutions rather than focusing solely on problems or past difficulties. I work collaboratively with clients to clarify their goals, recognize existing abilities and successes, and identify small, achievable steps toward meaningful change. I use techniques such as scaling questions, exceptions, strengths-based questioning, and future-oriented exploration to help clients build confidence and recognize their capacity for change.
I incorporate DBT-informed skills and interventions into individual therapy to help clients develop greater emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. I use DBT worksheets, skills training, and practical exercises to help clients identify emotional patterns, manage difficult emotions, improve communication, and respond to challenging situations more effectively. I integrate these interventions with other evidence-based approaches based on each client’s individual needs and treatment goals. I do not provide comprehensive DBT services, such as between-session phone coaching or a full DBT program.
I use EMDR as a trauma-focused approach to help clients process distressing experiences that may continue to affect their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. EMDR can help clients identify and reprocess distressing memories, reduce the emotional intensity associated with traumatic experiences, and develop more adaptive beliefs and responses. I tailor the pace and use of EMDR interventions to each client’s needs, readiness, treatment goals, and ability to maintain emotional stability throughout the therapeutic process.
