Hello and thank you for visiting my page! My name is Bethany but I go by Beth. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Kentucky. I have been providing individual, family, couples, and group therapy for 18 years. I graduated from Morehead State University in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I graduated from the University of Louisville in 2007 with a Master's Degree in Social Work. I have had a considerable range of experience over my 18 years of therapy. I have worked with all age groups and a wide variety of diagnoses. One of my particular areas of expertise is helping people with stress/anxiety. I have worked successfully with many clients who have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, panic attacks, agoraphobia, etc. I am a believer in the mind/body connection and take a holistic approach to helping people heal and improve their lives. Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision. Some of.my strengths as a therapist include excellent listening skills, a high level of compassion and empathy, patience, and a strong dedication to helping people heal. You have taken a big step in improving your life! Remember you are not alone. I am here to help!
During all sessions, I like to spend a few minutes engaging in small talk before we start our session. I have found this makes people feel more comfortable with opening up during session. We will complete what is called an admission assessment during our first session which gathers information about the reason you are coming to therapy and your background. Once we have completed the admission assessment, we will complete a treatment plan at the next session. Once we are established, I like to start out sessions by reviewing homework assigned at the previous session. We will end sessions about five minutes before time to review and schedule your next session.
One of my strengths is that I am very thorough and like to get to the root cause of mental health difficulties. This can take some time but I have found it brings longer lasting relief. I am a very good listener, have a high level of empathy, and bring many years of expertise to the table.
My ideal client is a client who is functioning well but needs assistance with stress, anxiety, and/or depression. I work well with these types of clients as I have had substantial experience/training in these areas. I also enjoy working with clients who engage in homework in between sessions. I enjoy working with clients who are already in the stages of change when they seek out therapy.
I utilize cognitive defusion to assist clients in learning that thoughts are not absolutes and can be controlled.
I often utilize the teaching of cognitive distortions to assist clients in learning about the unconscious thinking patterns that are contributing to their anxiety, stress, and/or depression.
I utilize the teaching of Christian meditation and forgiveness exercises to help clients calm negative thoughts and more freely give grace to themselves and others.
My greatest strengths shine through when conducting supportive therapy. These include active listening, validation, empathy, and giving individualized guidance.
I utilize the teaching of mediation, mindfulness, breath work, progressive muscle relaxation, and other techniques to assist clients in improving mood regulation.
