New to Grow
Hello! I began my journey toward Mental Health Therapy trying to understand my husband's PTSD and finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, at the tender age of 60. I received my Bacherlors Degree in Psychology at 60 and my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy seven years ago at 65. I've been working with teenagers and adults since I graduated.
I'm old school and will not make you feel like I've placed you under a microsope to be disected. I use a lot of humor and a very laid back approach in sessions. We will mainly just talk. I know what I'm listening for without making you feel like you're being assessed.
I draw more from my school of life experiences. I don't have all the answers for what you should do, that must come from you, but I can definately tell you what I've witnessed that doesn't work. Together we can help you find your answers for assisting you in learning positive coping skills for becoming a survior and overcoming negative life experiences.
My ideal client understands that there are no instant solutions and that I don't have their answers, but I can help them to look inside themselves to find their strengths that they can draw from to overcome negative life experiences, both past and present. I have had good success in working with teens and older clients. My age, 71, allows me to bring similar life experiences from my own past with clients close to my age as well as with younger clients through my relationships with my children and grandchildren.
I prefer simply talking with my clients which allows me to hear much more how they are feeling than assessments and questions can provide.
I work from assisting my clients in overcoming traumatic life experiences through understanding you can't change what happened or what others do, but you can change how you let it affect you and how you deal with it.
