LPCC, 6 years of experience
Hi! My name is Scottye Sparks. I'm an LPCC-S in the state of Kentucky. I love people and I love working with clients. Therapy helped me save my life and become a better, happier, person. I believe in the process of therapy and the power of self-actualizing! You can transform your life and live healthier and happier. I would love to help you get to that point. I have treated many disorders in my time as a therapist, ranging from schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression to all forms of substance use disorder. I work with couples as well! I love my work, and I love helping people. This is a passion for me!
Our first session will be about getting to know one another and establishing an appropriate therapeutic relationship. My focus will be on answering any questions you have and clearly defining the expectations from a clinical perspective. I will give you some history about myself and my background. We can begin to set goals for your therapy and create a treatment plan which will allow you to make progress toward your goals!
I am very person-centered. I believe in developing a sense of trust and safety with clients so that they can be more comfortable discussing their feelings with me. My first goal is to make you feel safe! I also believe that you are the expert in your life! I am not going to fix you, but I can help and support you in a way that prompts you to fix yourself! I find that the best results are found when a therapist supports and motivates a client to heal themselves. You can do this! I will be there to help you along the way and to cheer you on.
I have worked with a variety of clients. Many of my clients have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, and the range of substance use disorders. I have worked with couples, teenagers, and families. I don't have a specific type of client that I prefer. In my experience, I enjoy working with everyone!
I primarily practice under the Person-Center method. I believe that having a strong relationship with my clients is the most effective way of helping them. I focus on establishing the relationship, allowing the client to feel heard and seen, and letting them direct the session when appropriate.
I integrate CBT interventions into my sessions as a way to challenge negative cognitions and self-talk. I believe that changing the way we think about ourselves and situations is a powerful tool in helping us to learn coping skills and to adapt.
I believe that our experience of the world is important and that we can create meaning and value in our lives. I use this method to assist clients in learning what they have control of and focusing on that as a means to heal.
