My background in fine arts from a young age got me closer to getting in touch with my own emotions and those of others. I earned a BA in psychology and mental health and an MS in psychology with a major in marriage and family therapy while still practicing fine arts. That journey helped me develop my calling for psychology and helping people improve their lives, serving as a guide. I'm very joyful and empathetic and a great listener! I have worked in community mental health centers, private practice, and nonprofit organizations with individuals, couples, and families struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, grief, and loss, among other life challenges. I’m a very holistic therapist with a postmodernist approach; I provide individualized interventions depending on your specific needs and offer a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can start your healing process while I guide you through it.

*Currently accepting new clients via teletherapy.* I am ready to help you! I have been a therapist for 10+ years and my mission is to help you find balance in your life. I view therapy through a holistic standpoint, in which I use the mind and the body to help you get to the wellness that you so deserve. I became a therapist because I wanted to help clients navigate the stresses of work and life and make meaningful changes that would improve their mental well-being. At the first session, you can expect a non-judgmental and an easy-going conversation to build up a therapeutic alliance. At the moment, I practice entirely over tele-health, giving us the flexibility to connect conveniently and safely. I received a Master's degree in family psychology, in 2010, from Hardin-Simmons University in Texas. I engage others by helping them feel comfortable while also being solution focused. I prescribe to a Cognitive behavioral approach which helps others see life's problems and solutions in a better light. I work with individuals ages 5-100, families, adolescents, marriage or relationship counseling, premarital counseling, and parents who need some guidance raising their children. Some areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, bipolar, problem solving, relationship specialist, communication skills, anger management, coping skills, relaxation exercises, and panic attacks.

I've been blessed to have wonderful professional positions throughout my career (see roderickhaferphd.com). Most recently I was Vice-Chair of the Psychiatry Department at the University of Wisconsin. I enjoy working with all client presentations and believe that the "connection" with those I treat is critical to therapy success. Hi, I’m Cyndi Oberdan, and if you’re reading my page, I can tell that no matter what you are going through right now, you have COURAGE. Maybe you don’t feel brave, but it takes COURAGE to ask for help, and Courage to venture “into the unknown.” I would be honored to journey with you on this new adventure of yours. I have been serving people for over 15 years. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in 2006 from the University of Florida in Recreational Therapy. Later, in 2013, I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. Over the last 15 years, I have had the privilege to work in a variety of settings. I started off working with individuals diagnosed with a developmental or intellectual disability and their families. I had the privilege of running a family respite program, and later the honor to manage a Community Habilitation program where I assisted individuals ages 13 to 60+ with achieving their goals. (These goals varied from basic life skills, to enhancing academic skills, to developing coping skills, all while increasing socialization and connection). Later I worked in Child Welfare, as a Child Protective Investigator; investigating allegations of abuse/neglect and ensuring child safety. I have also worked with families, assisting them with getting to the root of their issues while strengthening the family unit. Lastly, I have worked as a medical social worker, both in the hospital and in the outpatient Clinics, as well as in the Emergency Department. I provide crisis intervention, case management, and counseling services; assisting patients with trauma, adjustment disorder, grief and socioeconomic barriers. I use an eclectic approach to meet the needs of each individual client. Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. I specialize in integrative individual and couples therapy for the mind and body. My perspective on therapy starts with the central belief that if you listen to your clients, they will always tell you what's going on. While that may seem very basic, unfortunately, there is very little listening going on these days. When we are listened to and are unconditionally respected and accepted, we instinctively have the right stuff inside of us to figure out our issues. That's how we become empowered . That's how we grow. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming anxiety, relationship issues or depression. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion, understanding and respect. And I will use the latest evidence-based techniques to support you in your journey Helping you find that inner strength and resolve is what makes me uniquely qualified to help.

Trained as a psychologist (Ph.D. from Cornell University). Some 20 years later I earned a specialized graduate degree in Psychotherapy from Nova SE University, the only nationally accredited program in all of Florida. I am a fully licensed therapist in the State of Florida. I have taught psychology at Princeton, Tulane, Cornell, and Harvard Medical School. We will spend most of our time creating solutions, instead of analyzing problems. So often, therapy gets bogged down in the endless exploration of problems. Problems are the results of behaviors that didn't work for you in the past. Solutions flow from changes that will work for you starting right now. Solutions make your life better. They bring joy and peace to your life.

Many people struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, navigating friendships, connecting with your partner or building stronger family dynamics, but I am here to help. No matter how big or small the problem is, no one should face life challenges alone. I would be happy to be part of your journey of healing, seeking self-acceptance and optimal fulfillment to live your best life. My hope for our work together is that you complete therapy with a better understanding of self, emotions, behaviors and a unique toolbox to manage any stressors. I utilize person-in-environment approaches, where we are able to look at how the different domains of life are impacting you and vice versa. As a therapist, I am collaborative, exploratory, and realistic, which also means that I will challenge you to expand your perspective about yourself, emotions, thoughts, behaviors, relationships, family dynamics, etc. Being vulnerable is scary! In my practice, I view therapy as a collaborative process, where you are the expert of your life and experiences and I can help you to figure out where you want to go and how you want to get there. I have a Master's degree in clinical psychology, and am passionate about what I do. Helping clients reinvent, re signify and solve their own life problems is the best reward to my practice. I believe that the power of a good psychotherapy process lies in its ability to help my clients understand themselves better, address their emotional psychological challenges, and make meaningful changes in their lives. I also believe strongly in the transformative power of connection and communication, and know that psychotherapy is the key to evolve and learn new skills that may be hidden inside someone. I also have years of experience treating clients with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, bereavement, trauma, attachment, and personality disorders. As a clinician, I utilize a human focused approach. I am not here to tell you what you need to work on; you already know the “what”. As a clinician, it is my job to help you understand the “why”, and eventually, the “how” (to fix it, overcome it, or just plain throw it away). Your first session, is essentially a two-way interview; as I listen to your story/narrative, and the “rough draft” begins to unfold, WE as a team determine if, 1) I am the right therapist for you, and 2) If you are the right client for me. If we both agree to move forward from the first session, identifying your goals will be your first assignment; giving you the opportunity to do this, helps me to better see how you think and interpret your barriers (i.e. stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, etc.). I am your coach, teammate, and cheer leader! We will focus on one goal at a time. Whether you are just starting this process, or you have been in it for a while, I encourage you to plant that mustard seed, and watch just how beautifully you can grow.

Hello and Welcome! I'm Christy. Take a moment to acknowledge you've taken the first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to a wide array of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and/or self-care, just to name a few. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share. I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker based in Miami, Florida. I earned my graduate degree from Florida International University in 2010 and have been licensed since 2016. My career began at Banyan Health Systems (formerly Miami Behavioral), where I worked as an adult mental health case manager back in 2004. After gaining my Masters degree, I continued to work for Banyan as a Child outpatient therapist and intake specialist. As a mother of three, I am deeply committed to family and believe that "family over everything" is the foundation of my personal and professional life. In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, spending time with my husband and three children, going to the beach and embracing the vibrant energy of my Miami roots.

I work with the client's envisioned goals in mind first and foremost. I want to be able to build upon someone's strengths and eliminate feelings of inferiority. I like to help people work towards the best version of themselves and to gain independence by pushing past their limitations. If you find that you don't have the confidence to approach life and accomplish your goals then let's have a conversation and make this possible for you again. I truly believe everyone is capable of pushing past their limitations if given the insight and willingness to step out of their comfort zones. *** I'm currently running a special offer for any gamers out there. I will provide the first session free if you beat me in a best-of-3 set in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Feel free to send me a message or contact me at the phone number listed on my profile for details.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Florida rather than a city like Tampa?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Florida from Miami to Jacksonville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Florida.

Will my therapist take Oscar?

Yes! If you use Oscar you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Oscar you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Couples Counseling?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Couples Counseling, is filtering therapists in Florida that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
