What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a few key things to happen, though it may vary slightly depending on the needed approach or the type of therapy. Introductions and Rapport Building – I will introduce myself, explain my background, and clarify my approach. This is also an opportunity for the you to get a sense of who I am and whether you feel comfortable. Overview of the Therapeutic Process – I may explain how therapy works, what to expect in terms of structure, and discuss confidentiality and its limits (e.g., safety concerns or harm to self/others). Presenting Concerns – I will ask questions to understand why you sought therapy. This might include exploring your current struggles, emotional state, or any events that brought you to therapy. I may ask about you history (e.g., mental health, relationships, life stressors). Setting Goals – The therapist may work with the client to start identifying what they hope to achieve in therapy. These goals may evolve over time, but it's helpful to have a direction, even early on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Empathy – The ability to deeply understand and connect with a client's emotions, struggles, and experiences. Active Listening – My capacity to truly listen, without judgment, and to pick up on both verbal and non-verbal cues. Emotional Intelligence – Being in tune with you own emotions as well as understanding and managing the emotions of others in a therapeutic context. Patience – The understanding that progress in therapy can take time, and the ability to remain patient with clients as they work through difficult issues. Communication Skills – The ability to convey thoughts, feedback, and coping strategies in a way that is clear, compassionate, and effective. Problem-Solving Skills – Helping clients gain clarity on issues and offering practical tools and strategies to manage challenges. Adaptability – Flexibility in tailoring approaches to meet the specific needs of each individual client. Boundaries – Maintaining professional boundaries that foster trust and a healthy therapeutic relationship.
