I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and 20 years ago I moved to Florida where I currently reside. I graduated in 2005 from Florida International University with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. At the present time, I hold 8 state licenses that allows me to to provide Tele-health counseling in other states besides Florida; Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Missouri, Utah and Michigan. I am also bilingual (English and Spanish) and I have more than 10 years of experience in the mental health and social services arena.

My name is Vanessa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire & New Mexico and South Carolina. I am bilingual(English & Spanish) and can provide counseling in both languages. My clinical background in Mental Health began as an undergrad and continued through grad school, working for the public sector for the Department of Children & Families where I worked with children, then the elderly in skilled nursing facilities and with adolescents in group homes. I then went on to work as a Nurse Navigator and provided services that included counseling and advocacy for oncology patients at one of the largest cancer hospitals in South Florida. In addition to this, I have also worked with adults in inpatient rehab for substance abuse and court ordered treatment, and served outpatient clients in the LGBTQ community. My training is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Solution Focused, and many others that include treatment planning; where my goal is to get my client back to a normal baseline that they are comfortable with and can function in their daily life. I am an open minded, kindhearted and empathetic individual, where my mantra is that I am here for YOU, my job is to assist you in anyway that I can, and help you manage life's daily stressors that may be recent or long-term. We all have good and bad days, I believe we are all one step away from a mental health crisis. Life is one big roller coaster of stress, worry, emotion that all revolve around something changing in our life that we were not prepared for and do not know how to adjust to it. So my job is to help you navigate all of that and achieve happiness, peace and overall well being.

There are times in our lives when we need assistance to help us in meeting our individual and family goals. Life can take a turn that we are not ready for. Change can be expected or unanticipated, leaving the individual with anxieties and stressors that are difficult to process. I have a PhD in Psychology and LCSW. I am also married to a retired Navy Veteran and mom/bonus mom to seven. I have spent the past 28 years working within the criminal justice and civil court system with individuals, families, and, adolescents, as well as advocating for victims of crime and first responders, including military families.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Substance Abuse Professional, and Masters Certified Addictions Professional. With over 30 years experience in the mental health field. I am empathetic, nonjudgmental, sarcastic, and have a tendency to curse too much. I am best known for my non-traditional approach to therapy. I thinks outside the box, and tailor my approach to therapy to meet each client’s unique needs. This is done by drawing from various modalities, to customize the right approach for each individual. This eclectic approach allows me to adapt to the diverse needs of my clients.

I am a licensed therapist who is passionate about helping clients navigate burnout. I am passionate because I have been there and was tired of getting unhelpful answers from people who meant well but did not seem to understand. Advice like ‘sleep it off’ and ‘take a deep breath’ we're common and it felt like I was putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. I promise, life does not need to be a constant cycle of burning out and starting again. Through our work together we will explore ways to ‘stitch’ the gaping wound so you are actually able to heal and move towards a more balanced life. Through our work together I will use imagery and analogies to help you better understand how and why your body and mind is reacting the way it is. Like a birds eye view, I am able to see some of the signs that are right in front of you but are too zoomed in to see clearly. In a non-judgmental space I use education and a bit of humor to help you see the full picture and move towards a healthier balance.
