Hi! First, I want to thank you for visiting my page and giving me an opportunity to see how my therapeutic style can assist you with reducing your distress and increasing your life satisfaction. I am so honored that you have decided to review my profile and see if I am a good fit for your journey.
I have been working as a therapist with a variety of mental health disorders and systemic family dynamics since 2015. I initially pursued a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and decided that was an unfulfilling career direction for me. Upon deciding to pursue a master’s degree, I decided to pursue the MFT field. Becoming and MFT was the career goal I had as a teenager, so you could say that pursuing the field is a lifelong dream come true.
My methods of therapy are person led. I like to provide space, and safety to assist you with addressing the reasons you made the brave choice to pursue therapy. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). It is a gentle, evidenced based method that uses mindfulness and increases coping skills to assist with achieving therapeutic goals. Additionally, I utilize the technique of Brainspotting that assists with deeper, difficult to resolve trauma.
I am LGBTQ+ affirming therapist. I work with clients who are questioning, in their transition process, as well as those who are working on their mental health unrelated to their sexual and gender orientation. If necessary, I can consult with you if you need me to provide gender affirming letters when required for insurance and surgical and hormonal procedures.
I really appreciate the time that you took to read through all this information, and I hope that it helps you make an informed decision.

Hi! My name is Ali Akhtar, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based out of Los Angeles, California. I specialize in anxiety, depression, life transitions, multigenerational trauma, self-esteem, and men's issues. As a clinician I am dedicated to working through past traumas, and building towards a healthier baseline. I have been practicing as a clinician for over ten years with adults, teenagers and children.
I specialize in working with individuals, parents, and families where there are no easy answers. My process is grounded in curiosity and clinical insight, with a balance of structure and responsiveness. I take the time to understand before intervening—and when we move, we do so with intention.
For many years, things seemed very smooth in my life and I was able to perform my way to success. I had the privilege of completing a 4 year degree, then a Masters Degree, I got the great job, I met and married my husband, had kids, and enjoyed a bountiful circle of friends. What could go wrong? Well, the wheels started falling off. Initially, we floundered, and things got a little dark and twisty (kudos to those who just got that Meredith Grey reference)! We emerged with the understanding we were living in a home full of neurodivergent people.
I know firsthand the deep love, advocacy, and exhaustion that can come with walking this path. I’ve worked with families navigating ADHD, autism, sensory needs, trauma overlays, anxiety masking, shame and perfectionist, and complex IEP systems—and I continue to seek out current research and best practices to support neurodivergent children and adults, especially within systems that lack flexibility.
When life's challenges - work, relationships, money troubles, illness or injury become too much to manage, or when the pain of the past pops up when you least expect it to disrupt sleep, or when daily stressors build up and make it hard to cope, that's when more than a friendly ear is needed. That's when a professional can help you heal the compounding effects of life experiences.
If you are seeking long-term relief from anxiety, trauma, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, grief or loss, I will help you heal those emotional injuries that compound over a lifetime and make life lose its meaning. And I will empower you to heal the emotional pain that is preventing you from living your best life.

Using a trauma-informed framework, I integrate EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness-based techniques to help you process difficult experiences and build resilience. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT and trauma-informed care to help you navigate anxiety, depression, burnout, and post-traumatic stress. My goal is to provide practical tools to build resilience and improve your well-being. I create a supportive space where you feel empowered to heal and grow.
