A little about me, I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Kean University in Union, NJ. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. I have experience working with clients in a variety of settings and diverse backgrounds. I have worked within hospitals, residential treatment facilities, community mental health centers, non-profit organizations, schools, major health insurance companies, and private practice. The past few years have been difficult for so many of us... It seems like any issues we had before the pandemic were put on hold and we were then faced with a brand new set of overwhelming issues to cope with! Now that it seems we are beginning to return to some sense of normalcy, there's finally time to focus on personal growth and healing.

Hello! My name is Donyell Davis and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Texas. I earned my Master’s in Social Work with a focus on Services to Children and Families from Our Lady of the Lakes University. I have 14 years of experience in the social work field working with diverse populations. My clients often describe me as empathetic, compassionate, and attentive. I pride myself on being an open-minded lifelong learner with a keen interest in evidence-based practice interventions. I chose to become a therapist because I discovered that blending the heart of a social worker with the professional skill set of an effective therapist profoundly enhances individuals’ quality of life. What sets me apart is my collaborative approach: we embark on this journey together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs, without rushing the process. I enjoy working through issues that I have personally experienced like being a single parent, losing a spouse and the affects it has on the family system, raising a child with a disability, work-life balance, unhealthy relationships, lack of a support system, absence of a positive role model early in life, navigating life challenges, obtaining personal growth, and communication skills.

Welcome. I’m a combat veteran and retired Army officer, Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and experienced clinical psychologist. I want to get into the root causes of your struggles or battle and find ways to overcome, change, forgive, accept, and move upward toward the light. It may not seem like it, but the darkness will eventually lift, and the light will surely shine again. Life is a battle in the heart, and I humbly accept that I will be in my own battle or someone else’s battle for the rest of my life. Like the weather, our emotions are powerful. Many days the sun shines, but the rains do come and sometimes a destructive storm hits hard (divorce, the loss of a loved one, cancer, suicidal thoughts, et cetera). It's a battlefield. When it comes to the challenge of relationships, so often, it is ego (wounded pride), self-esteem, and powerful emotions at the root of our conflicts. To understand these forces is the key to peace. Let's work through it! I have been honored to be in the field of psychology for 22 years since 2004. Through the years, more than half of my time was in the Army where I primarily worked with soldiers enduring anxiety, depression, trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, and all the other usual suspects of psychological distress. It was a time well for the analysis of guilt, fear, worry, shame, pain, heartbreak, addiction, identity conflicts, and sorrow. I’ve also worked in the prisons for many years with some extreme situations (i.e., murder, severe mental illness, rape, child molestation, drug kingpins, gang leaders). So, no matter what your circumstances are, never quit and never give up! Survival is a noble plight!

I would identify myself as someone who is very approachable and down to earth who sees great value in life and spending it with those that I value most. Making genuine connections with those with common interests is always a great start to building rapport and helping those in need. When providing therapy I like to look at each individual as a whole and then to peel. back the issues and concerns that are present and then to add the guidance and then to restore what is needed so that each person can continue living their lives in the way it was intended to be.

I’m someone who understands how overwhelming it can feel to be caught in life’s in-between space, whether it’s the end of a relationship, the shift in a friendship, or the uncertainty of what comes after graduation. I work with adults who are often relied upon by others but sometimes struggle to support themselves. As a therapist and thought partner, I bring warmth, honesty, and curiosity into our work. I believe therapy is a place where you can take off the mask, slow down, and reconnect with who you are outside of expectations and pressure. Healing begins when you have a safe place to explore your experiences, better understand yourself, and discover new ways forward. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, caregiver stress, low self-esteem, and major life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or struggling to balance the needs of others with their own wellbeing. I especially enjoy working with individuals who are ready to gain insight into how past experiences influence their current relationships, emotions, and sense of self. Whether you are struggling with difficult family dynamics, people-pleasing, boundary setting, self-confidence, chronic stress, or navigating a significant life change, therapy can provide the support and tools needed to create meaningful change. My approach is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and strengths-based approaches to help clients develop practical coping skills while also exploring the deeper patterns that may be keeping them stuck. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel both supported and challenged as you work toward your goals. My goal is to help clients build confidence, strengthen relationships, improve emotional wellbeing, and create lives that feel more aligned with their values. Together, we can work toward helping you feel more empowered, resilient, and capable of navigating life's challenges with greater clarity and self-trust.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with expertise working with LGBTQIA+ and Nuerodivergent individuals. Starting therapy can feel scary — but it can also be life-changing. You are brave, and you're not alone. I believe that therapy is ready to work for those who are ready to make the leap. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ it is close to my heart to ensure that all people have a safe, nonjudgmental place to process life's challenges. I also tend to use humor in session as a way to process stressors.
