New to Grow
Greetings and welcome! I’m LaKendria Ellis, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, authenticity, and practical support. Since 2019, I’ve worked with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, relationship concerns, trauma, self-esteem challenges, and burnout. I have a special passion for supporting women, mothers, helping professionals, and individuals working to heal from difficult relationships while rediscovering their confidence and sense of purpose. My approach to therapy is collaborative, empowering, and person-centered. I draw from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, and mindfulness techniques while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique goals and experiences. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, respected, challenged, and supported not judged. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, navigating a major life change, struggling with anxiety, or simply wanting to become the healthiest version of yourself, we’ll work together to build practical tools, increase resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. If desired, I also offer faith-sensitive counseling for clients who would like to incorporate their Christian beliefs into the therapeutic process, while always respecting each client’s individual values and preferences. Seeking therapy is a courageous first step, and I’m honored to be part of your journey. I look forward to helping you move from surviving to thriving.
During our first session, my goal is to get to know you—not just the challenges that brought you to therapy, but who you are as a whole person. We’ll discuss what prompted you to seek counseling, review your personal history, explore your strengths, and identify the goals you’d like to work toward. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the therapy process and determine whether we’re a good fit. My approach is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and tailored to your unique needs. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for change, we’ll work together to create a plan that supports your healing, growth, and long-term well-being at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
My greatest strengths as a therapist are my ability to show up authentically and create a space where clients feel genuinely welcomed, accepted, and safe to be themselves. I believe every person deserves to be seen without judgment, and I strive to build a trusting relationship where healing, growth, and empowerment can take place. I have a strong attention to detail and an ability to recall important information from previous sessions, helping clients recognize patterns, connect the dots, and gain deeper insight into their experiences. I view each client as a blank canvas, and with every session, we add meaningful details that create a clearer picture of who they are, where they’ve been, and where they want to go. My goal is to empower clients to recognize their strengths, trust themselves, and make confident decisions that align with their values. I combine warmth, curiosity, accountability, and evidence-based interventions to help clients build resilience, develop practical coping skills, and create lasting, meaningful change.
I am best positioned to work with adolescents and adults who are ready to invest in their personal growth and emotional well-being. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, burnout, self-esteem concerns, or the lasting effects of difficult experiences. I especially enjoy working with women, mothers, helping professionals, caregivers, and individuals who have spent so much time caring for others that they’ve lost sight of themselves. My ideal client may feel overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about their next chapter, but they are open to self-exploration and committed to creating meaningful change. They don’t need to have all the answers—they simply need a willingness to show up. Together, we focus on increasing self-awareness, building healthy coping skills, establishing boundaries, improving relationships, processing past experiences, strengthening confidence, and creating a life that aligns with their values and goals. My hope is that clients leave therapy feeling empowered, equipped, and more connected to who they are and who they are becoming.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, or relationship challenges. Rather than simply focusing on symptoms, I help clients explore where these patterns originated, evaluate whether they are serving them, and develop healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. In our work together, you’ll learn practical skills to challenge negative self-talk, regulate emotions, improve problem-solving, and respond to life’s challenges with greater confidence. I tailor CBT to each client’s unique experiences and goals, incorporating reflection, skill-building, and real-life application so the tools we discuss in session can be used outside of therapy. My goal is to empower clients with strategies that foster lasting change and greater emotional well-being.
Christian Counseling
For clients who desire it, I offer Christian counseling by thoughtfully integrating biblical principles and faith into the therapeutic process. I believe emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being can work together to support healing and growth. Together, we may explore how your faith influences your values, relationships, decision-making, and life experiences while using evidence-based therapeutic approaches to address your concerns. Faith integration is always guided by your preferences and comfort level. It may include discussing Scripture, prayer, forgiveness, grace, identity in Christ, or other spiritual practices when they align with your goals. My role is not to impose my beliefs but to provide a safe, respectful space where you can explore your faith as a source of strength, hope, and resilience throughout your healing journey.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients identify their strengths, build on what is already working, and create practical steps toward meaningful change. Rather than focusing solely on problems, we work together to clarify your goals, recognize your existing abilities and resources, and develop realistic solutions that fit your life. I believe even small changes can lead to significant progress. Throughout our work, I ask thoughtful, future-oriented questions that encourage insight, hope, and confidence. This approach empowers clients to recognize their resilience, celebrate progress, and take intentional steps toward the life they want to create while honoring their unique experiences and values.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach by meeting clients where they are with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I believe each person is the expert on their own life, and my role is to provide a safe, supportive environment where they feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Together, we build a trusting therapeutic relationship that fosters self-awareness, healing, personal growth, and meaningful change at a pace that feels right for each client.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their own motivations for change in a supportive, nonjudgmental way. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I ask thoughtful questions that encourage self-reflection, resolve ambivalence, and strengthen confidence in their ability to move forward. This collaborative approach empowers clients to identify goals that align with their values and take meaningful, sustainable steps toward the life they want to create.
