Therefore, I offer a space where people can slow down, better understand the patterns behind what they feel, and learn how to navigate life with more clarity, emotional balance, and self-understanding rather than constantly feeling like they are just trying to survive through it.
"You are your best thing"-Toni Morrison. Growing through this journey we call life will unfortunately bring things you can't control & it's not always easy to cope & it's not always easy to talk to someone. Do you find yourself constantly worrying or overthinking every possible outcome? Do you feel like you must prepare for the worst just to feel in control? Maybe you struggle with uncertainty, fear making the wrong decision, or feel like everything has to be done perfectly. Anxiety can leave you feeling restless, exhausted, and stuck in patterns that affect your sleep, your relationships, and your peace of mind. Life transitions often bring us into what can feel like “stormy waters.” As Viktor Frankl wrote, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

When life feels heavy, it's easy to feel disconnected from yourself, your relationships, or the direction you want your life to take. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, grief, or major life transitions—and unsure of how to move forward.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor serving adolescents and adults in Florida and New Jersey, I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered. Together, we'll identify what's contributing to your struggles, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools that support healing, resilience, and meaningful change.
Hi there, I am Charly.
As a clinical therapist, I admire your willingness to seek therapy support. I want to offer understanding, and empathic emotional support to assist anyone experiencing emotional distress.
Most people tend to suffer silently in their heads, or minds, due to conscious or subconscious, self-blame, shame, or guilt feelings as they seem to feel helpless. Individuals experiencing acute emotional distress due to mental health conditions often fail to realize that unresolved, deep internal pain or heartache is silently triggering their emotional distress.
One school of talk therapy called, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), proposes that the lack of the capacity for "Psychological Flexibility" and our brain's default, or Survival Mode functioning the instinctual responses of "Flight or Flight," as required for human survival.
As, your therapist, I am willing to support you in exploring your difficulty or distress and examine the mental barriers or psychological blinders causing you to feel internally conflicted and stuck. Some of my past and current clients tell me that "my ability to relate to them with an open mind and withholding personal judgment and a solution-focused perspective," helps them to feel at ease and connect with me and my style of therapy.
I follow an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from academic learning, experiential knowledge, and over 30 years of practicing experience using evidence-based treatment modalities based on scientific literature and up-to-date neuroscience research. I have training and experience in the following major treatment modalities such as CBT, REBT, SFBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and specifically to deal with trauma, a newer form of Rapid Eye Movement Therapy (Accelerated Resolution Therapy).
I am a licensed clinical social worker and have trained as a professional life coach. I have been working in this field since 2009 and had been a special education teacher for 13 years and am currently working as a school social worker in high school in Tampa, Florida for the last 8 years. I have a lot of experience with working with children and adults when wanting to address challenging behaviors and building on individuals' strengths. I also have worked with couples for years, helping partners learn active listening and build on their communication skills to learn how to validate others' feelings and thoughts.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida who works with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem, and emotional overwhelm. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that therapy should feel both supportive and practical.
I draw from person-centered therapy, CBT, ACT, psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness, and other evidence-based tools depending on what fits each person best. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Some clients benefit from learning concrete skills and strategies, while others need space to better understand their patterns, relationships, emotions, and past experiences.
My goal is to create a space where you can be honest without feeling judged, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and work toward meaningful changes that actually fit your life. Whether you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply ready to understand yourself better, we can work together to figure out what is getting in the way and what moving forward can look like for you.
Are you struggling to find a sense of purpose in your life? Unsure of whether you are headed in a direction that will leave you feeling satisfied and fulfilled? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious and overwhelmed due to challenges that prior generations did not face. We’re expected to manage our relationships and careers flawlessly in a world that is rapidly changing without anyone who quite understands how to guide us. If you can relate - you’re in the right place.
When you begin therapy with me, you’ll feel like you’re talking to a close friend with a wealth of clinical knowledge. Open, friendly, warm, caring - these are just a few of the ways my friends, family members, and clients describe my personality. In sessions with me, you’ll feel free of judgment as we discuss some of the struggles that brought you here.
Most importantly, I’ll help you understand some of your own tendencies so that we can identify thought patterns and behaviors that you’d like to change. During this process, you'll feel encouraged and supported, and will feel motivated in new ways.
I have lived a long and colorful life. Like everyone else, I've made good and bad choices and learned from each. I have 22+ years experience in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field. I DO NOT JUDGE, AT ALL, PERIOD. I can be both blunt and gentle as appropriate. My role is to offer another perspective, a way to see life more fully and function better, no more, no less. I don't pretend to have all the answers but only one slice of wisdom. I just share what can help someone. Some people are not yet ready to be helped. Yet for those who are feeling lost on life's journey and are willing to listen and learn, I'm here to assist. My life work can be summed up in three words, "offering people hope. "
"The wound is where the light enters." - Jeladdin Rumi
"A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once." Martin Luther King Jr.
"Wouldn't take nothin' for my journey now." - Maya Angelou
"The past is gone, and there is left only a blessing." - Kahlil Gibran

There is help worth seeking, and problems get better with wise counsel.

Together, we’ll work to understand what keeps you stuck, strengthen self-trust, develop healthier ways of coping and relating, and reconnect with the person you want to be.
John Checkett is the first man in history to earn a master's degree in Women's Studies in Florida.
How many times has this happened to you: You've made an innocent remark, and the other person distorts it and blames you for the distortion, not for what you actually said. That's called the Strawman Argument and is a common problem of communication -- communication typically being the single biggest problem couples have. Communication is one of the social sciences, and one of John's specialties, along with Women's Studies, Pastoral Psychology and Clinical Social Work.
He helps high-functioning men and women free themselves from low self-esteem and negative thinking. As a former officer in the Theosophical Society and a former professional psychic, he firmly believes in the value of Spirituality to Mental Health. He can also help with exercise and nutrition, to help create a holistically healthy situation for you.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety or depression, relationship problems, or just feel overwhelmed, Prof Checkett is here to help -- even with time management! You might feel bit nervous about starting therapy, but he's extremely easy to talk to, knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects, and very media-literate. Most people feel better after a session. In a short time we can get you unstuck and back to living a happy life again.

I work with adults and teens experiencing anxiety, panic, depression, trauma, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other concerns that can make it difficult to feel like yourself. I have a particular interest in supporting high-functioning and highly sensitive individuals who may be used to being the strong one, putting others first, or holding everything together while struggling internally.
My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, respected, and accepted. Whether you're looking for support through a difficult season, healing from past experiences, or simply wanting to better understand yourself, you don't have to navigate it alone.
I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, identities, cultures, family structures, and life experiences. You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out—we can start exactly where you are.
I have been licensed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor since 2004, and have held a supervision designation since 2015. I have also held a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor with a supervision/training designation license since 2018. I have maintained a private counseling practice in Chillicothe since 2000, and I continue to work with individuals and families in that capacity. I have dedicated my career to helping others and to working with the community to ensure the well-being of families and children.
My most common theoretical approaches are Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Christian Therapy, but I am proud to be able to use a multitude of approaches, dependent on what works best for the client(s) involved.
I value the individual and the couple regardless of age or philosophical approach to their life or relationship. I see my goal of treatment as improving the individual or couple to be the best they want to be.
My communication tone or approach tends to be direct but laid back. We are in session to work together, not have me tell you what to do or where you need to go.
I received my Master's Degree in Counseling from Wayne State University in 2011. I am experienced in providing a wide variety of therapeutic services including Substance Use, Addictions, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, and Grief and Loss. I see adults, 18 and over, including elders. I offer both telehealth and in person sessions, whichever works best for you.
Making a call is your first step towards feeling better. I look forward to meeting you.
