New to Grow
Hi, I am Sherry, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, and have been a counselor since 2006. I work with adults facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I bring a warm, supportive, and practical approach, drawing from CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and Positive Psychology. I also offer Christian counseling for those who desire it, while fully respecting client who prefer a non-faith-based approach. My goal is to meet you where you are and to help you move forward with clarity and confidence. *I am currently not taking Cigna/Evernorth clients.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, I will take time to get to know you, and to understand what brought you to counseling. We will review important information together including the informed consent, which helps to explain your rights and how we will work together. I will also guide us through some intake paperwork to gather background and better understand your needs. This allows us to take a collaborative approach in developing a personalized treatment plan to fit your goals. My aim is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and empowered from the very start.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What makes my approach unique is the genuine care that I have for each person along with my commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable being yourself. I believe that being heard and understood is the foundation for healing and growth. We will partner together to tailor the counseling approach so that I can help you get the most out of your sessions to help make meaningful, and lasting change in your life.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work best with adults who are ready to grow and are willing to engage in the process at their own pace. My clients often face anxiety, depression, life transitions, or relationship challenges, and are seeking tools and compassionate support. I frequently like to give home assignments to do outside of our sessions together so that you can get the maximum benefit from the new tools that you are learning.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have experience with successfully teaching this method to help clients recognize and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that may be negatively impacting their mood and overall well-being. When CBT techniques are applied, this can help people identify and reframe, negative thoughts which in turn, helps them to build more adaptive coping skills to improve emotional functioning.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have had experience with successfully teaching this method to help clients develop effective skills for managing intense emotions and reducing interpersonal conflict. DBT balances the need for change with the importance of acceptance, based on the core principles that two seemingly opposing ideas can both be true at the same time.
Christian Counseling
I offer Christian counseling for clients who wish to incorporate their Christian faith into counseling, including biblical teachings and prayer. I have used this type of counseling successfully to help clients to explore their emotional and mental health challenges through the lens of their biblical beliefs. I do not incorporate or provide guidance on other faith traditions, and I respect clients' preferences to prefer not to include faith in sessions.
