I received a B.A. in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles and a M.S. in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Phoenix, Arizona. I expanded my career into child welfare services and have worked with children, their families and caregivers, helping support behavioral and emotional challenges, financial challenges, career challenges, and domestic violence. I understand the importance of early intervention, timely assessments, and developing individualized treatment plans to enable clients to live independently, encounter positive experiences from their environment, and be able to enjoy a fulfilling and happy life to reach their full potential. I believes the key to obtaining self-sufficiency for my clients is to assist them in the progression of their expressive language, daily living skills, social and family interactions, academics and/or career path. I continuously work to improve my knowledge by attending conferences and workshops, and always strive to bring highly recommended practices for my clients.

Have you been struggling with anxiety and/or lack of direction? Are you critical of yourself and feeling negative and sad? Do you have issues in your past you feel are impacting your present? Are you challenged by a life transition? Change is hard and not always smooth. Sometimes we get in our own way toward the life we want to live. I can help gain perspective and look at whether your thoughts and behaviors are helping you along your path or hindering your way. We can look at how patterns, thoughts and behaviors that might have been adaptive from a less than perfect past might be getting in your way now. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral approach to look at thoughts and behaviors and what would serve you best. Incorporating positive psychology, support and compassion you will have assistance on life’s sometimes/occasionally meandering path.

Welcome! I'm Lanelle P. Laws, LMFT. For over 15 years, I've had the privilege of helping people overcome challenges related to trauma, incarceration, depression, anxiety, and LGBTQ+ identity. My passion is empowering individuals to build their self-esteem and thrive. I offer an environment that is non-judgmental, comfortable, and encouraging but from a BIPOC approach. I'm a unique therapist because my lived experience gives me relatability that others do not have. I have dedicated my life to breaking generational traumas that have plagued most underserved communities and I aim to bring voices to marginalized populations that have been misrepresented. I always say, "I'm not your average therapist!" I don't say this because I'm better...I say this because my approach has been elevated to attract individuals that have fallen through the cracks due to unhealthy relationships with therapy. I know what it's like to need help and not be able to find it...let me "Change Ur Narrative".

My clinical approach is aligned with "Radical Healing Theory," which encompasses a holistic approach to healing beyond physical health and addresses the underlying causes of suffering and inequality. It acknowledges the interconnectedness of various social, economic, political, and environmental systems and their impact on individual and collective well-being. Radical healing is rooted in critical theory and social justice frameworks. It challenges traditional notions of health and healing by centering marginalized voices and experiences. It seeks to dismantle oppressive structures and promote equity, justice, and liberation.

I work with people who wonder why life feels a lot harder for them compared to everyone else. My clients often feel lonely or disconnected, and like they never really fit in. This might come from being neurodivergent, growing up in a high-control religion, living in a rigid family system, or feeling more self-aware than those around them. I work with care, curiosity, and creativity, using approaches rooted in mindfulness and evidence-based practices. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in California and Nevada, specializing in individual and group therapy. I have over 20 years of experience providing services to adults and adolescents including case management, and individual and group therapy. I work with clients using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and other modalities to help them learn how to recognize and change unhealthy or painful patterns in their lives. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, and career challenges. I have also helped people who have experienced physical trauma and/or emotional abuse. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. The work is not always easy or comfortable but it is rewarding and it has the power to bring lasting positive change to our lives. I hope to be able to bring what I've learned to my work with clients. Not as an expert or someone with all the answers but as a coach or guide. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.

Welcome to my (safe) space!!! I'm a bit of a Fred Roger's enthusiast, so let me start by saying thank you for being you!! My most important value is to treat people with love and respect, no matter their background, no matter their circumstances!! I believe we all deserve it!!! My name is Jose-Santos Xavier Orozco, feel free to call me whatever makes you comfortable!!! Life to me is about being flexible, or like Bruce Lee said, like water, being able to bend and reshape whenever needed, while maintaining strength and purpose!!! I am a 36 year old male therapist who was born in SF and raised in Los Angeles! My early years were spent in the foster care system until I was placed into a permanent family at the age of 6. I am of mixed Ethnic background and have experienced culture/ identity difficulties since as long as I can remember. Life has naturally brought me to get a degree in Social work and work in this field. I would definitely consider myself a wounded warrior, although I feel like my injuries have been pretty well tended to by now. Learning to accept and love yourself has been my greatest achievement (on-going achievement) and I promise that when you get there too, it can be yours as well!!! I prefer working with ADULT population; I have very limited experience working with kids. Thank you

Hello, I'm Kendal. Do you ever find yourself having a hard time with your thoughts? To the point where it makes life as a whole more difficult? Are you having a hard time with allowing yourself to feel good about yourself? Has it gotten harder for you to maintain your relationships? I tackle these challenges with people who come from diverse backgrounds. I want to work with you to find out what's helping you and what isn't so that you can create simple changes that bring you back to feeling more like yourself, and creating a sense of balance in your life and in your mind. I approach you as a unique individual with your own needs, and integrate CBT, DBT, and MI into my approaches, as well as metaphors to help make complex concepts more relatable. I work with depression and it's negative thoughts, anxiety and it's racing worry thoughts, and LGBTQIA+ issues just to name a few. I want to help you in an environment that feels safe and can promote lasting growth. I firmly believe that each and every person deserves therapy from a mindset of cultural humility, and will bring that into our time together along with empathy and evidenced-based practices to help you navigate the struggles you bring in. I look forward to working with you!

My experience started in 2010 working as an intern in an inpatient facility for an eating disorder residential program for a about two years, from there I moved on to working as a therapist at a residential program treating adolescents with dual diagnosis. In the mean time I completed PsyD program and got my doctorate in clinical psychology. I also opened my private practice at that time and saw clients remotely. Currently I’m working at Sober Living helping adults deal with various addictions And mental health as well as see couples families and individuals through Telehealth. The modalities that I use often are CBT DBT solution focus and psychodynamic. I love my career and treat very client as if they are my only client. I’m passionate about helping people live to see their full potential and maximise their strengths while accepting their weaknesses. I’ve seen some success stories through my career and that’s what drives me to keep expanding my practice.

As a Doctor of Psychology and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for 45+ years, I am experienced in helping my clients deal with issues such as Loss and Grief Recovery, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Crisis Counseling, Stress Reduction, Depression and Anxiety. I provide a calm, empathetic, and nurturing environment where you will feel heard, and most importantly, understood. Together we will work on ways to help you understand your feelings and compulsions. My grieving clients experience closure through writing letters to their loved ones who have died. This letter writing is effective for all forms of loss. Reading the letters aloud is very healing as it encourages acceptance, and permits moving on to build a life filled with love and laughter. I've dealt with my own grief, loss and growth by writing a book series, "The Adventures of the Angel Oleo," as well as "The Dog Bible for Humans - Advice from Dogs to Humans of All Ages." I hope you have an opportunity to read one of my books and that I get to help you, and someone you know.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take Carelon Behavioral Health (Commercial)?

Yes! If you use Carelon Behavioral Health (Commercial) you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Carelon Behavioral Health (Commercial) you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
