My name is Anita Aasen, and I am a licensed therapist with over 30 years of experience working with a diverse range of individuals. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep understanding of anxiety, stress, burnout, and grief, and have honed my skills in helping individuals navigate through these challenges. I have worked with people from all walks of life, from young adults struggling with academic pressure to elderly individuals coping with loss and loneliness. My years of experience have equipped me with the knowledge and empathy needed to support my clients in their journey towards healing and self-discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I thought it's important in the first session to get to know one another and see if the chemistry is right, especially with online work! Building a strong connection from the beginning can set the stage for a successful therapeutic journey. Once we establish a comfortable rapport, we delve into the reasons why you have come into therapy. By sharing your concerns and goals, we can work together to create a roadmap for your healing journey. This collaborative process allows us to develop a tailored treatment plan that will provide you with the tools and support needed to navigate and overcome your challenges.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

"My greatest strength I think is my ability to connect with individuals. I am laid back and emphatic and emphasize that we will walk the road to healing together. I believe that forming a deep and meaningful connection with each person I encounter is crucial in providing effective support. By creating a safe and comfortable environment, I can truly listen and understand their needs, fears, and aspirations. I strive to build trust and rapport, allowing for open and honest communication. It is through this genuine connection that true healing and growth can take place. I approach each interaction with compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to help others navigate their challenges. Together, we can work towards positive change and a brighter future."

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been trained and certified in CBT through the Office of Mental Health in New York. I have found it to be one of the most effective therapies I have worked with as a therapist. I am also versed in its adaptations for sleep and trauma, and I use it in conjunction with stress relief and narrative therapy. It is a highly practical therapy.

Grief Therapy

I hold certifications in grief counseling and apply this expertise when working with clients who have experienced various types of loss, including death, miscarriage, loss of a pet, as well as other forms of loss like the loss of a friend or a job. This work holds significant value to me, and I maintain a practical approach in assisting individuals in navigating the process of transformation following loss, finding healing, and discovering the resilience to move forward.

Positive Psychology

1. In my professional approach, I consistently emphasize the strengths we all possess and aim to cultivate them. I strive to transform life's obstacles and shortcomings into valuable lessons. I also integrate holistic stress reduction methods and utilize gratitude as a therapeutic resource. I find immense therapeutic benefits in positivity and humor, and I have a strong belief in the resilience of the human spirit.
