Hi! I am a BIPOC/Latinx mental health clinician with a passion for working with individuals from underserved backgrounds. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy and I work with people to identify the most effective type of therapeutic approach for them. I take a holistic approach to therapy, integrating evidence-based interventions with non-traditional approaches to treating the mind, body, and spirit.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Initial therapy sessions are generally focused on gathering background history on individuals and what led them to seek therapy. You'll be evaluating whether I am a good fit for you as a therapist, and since building trust and understanding are gradual processes, first sessions usually do not start with diving deep into vulnerable topics. In a first session, I ultimately aim to provide a comfortable and confidential space for you to share what you're going through and what you might hope to gain from this experience.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a mental health provider, my greatest strengths are my open-mindedness, patience, and commitment to ongoing learning. A nonjudgemental approach is key to an individual's ability to be honest/open about difficult subjects and feeling accepted for who they are. I also understand that progress is not linear, and I will continue to be a supportive factor in your journey when you are faced with challenges. Lastly, I value continuing education to equip myself with knowledge on the current and most effective strategies to help my clients.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all have a powerful influence on each other and how we view ourselves, others, and the world. Depression and anxiety often have us stuck in unhelpful thought patterns that make us feel hopeless to our situation. I have utilized cognitive behavioral techniques to help numerous clients better manage their depression and/or anxiety. CBT works to challenge unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help individuals develop more effective/adaptive ways of thinking and being.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I place an emphasis on cultural humility in my practice. I aim to not make assumptions about your cultural background, and focus on what your cultural identity means to you and how to best incorporate this into the therapeutic process.

Psychodynamic

Our past often influences our present experience without our knowing. Using a psychodynamic approach, we can explore how you've arrived at current state and uncover how beliefs you may have been unaware of have kept you from achieving what you really want out of life. With this knowledge, we can work to process your past in a safe and supportive environment, ultimately aiming to integrate what you learn with the skills you need to grow and overcome your fears.
