LCSW, 10 years of experience
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in California and have been licensed for about 10 years now. I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in Anthropology in 2004. I also received my Masters in the Social Sciences from the University of Chicago in 2005. Finally, I received my Masters degree from the University of Chicago in 2012 in Social Work with a clinical concentration. My professors used to tease me and call me the "thermometer" because I had so many degrees. I actually love learning (I do not love studying) and am a true "book worm." I have piles and piles of books scattered in every nook and cranny. I also built my own telescope when I was in high school. I have seen several stars (Arcturus and Vega) and Neptune through high powered telescopes which were jaw droppingly beautiful. I have also done walk on roles in two professional Shakespeare productions (Henry VI, part 1 and 2) at the Old Globe at Balboa Park and the experience was amazing. Highly recommend.
In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow up sessions.
Anyone who has a pulse? I also enjoy working with people who tend to accumulate too much and might be hoarders?
I love evidence based practice. I see results year after year in patients of mine and I think it is one of the most effective treatment modalities that exists.
MI is essential for good therapy. Drawing out the change talk in clients is essential to what we do.

Maria is a wonderfully kind, warm and open-minded person. She actively listens during our sessions. She has a fantastic sense of humor & doesn't bat an eye at my cursing (Sorry! I have a potty mouth!). She has a great way of holding me accountable; she doesn’t beat around the bush, but she does it with kindness and compassion. I never feel judged or invalidated, even when she’s being direct.
