Halima Lawal is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) trained and experienced in treating patients with mental health conditions across the lifespan. She graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Psychiatry from the University of South Alabama in 2020. Prior to graduating with her MSN, she practiced as a critical care nurse taking care of patient after open heart surgery, traumas, seizure disorders, substance withdrawal, and numerous other psychiatric and medical problems. During the span of her career, she has served as a mentor and is enthusiastic about learning and teaching to empower others. She completed her training for psychiatry in the inpatient, outpatient, and telepsychiatry settings. She is passionate about what she does and is invested in positive patient’s outcomes and overall wellbeing.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
Halima utilizes the Diagnostic Statistical Manual Fifth Edition and screening tools with high specificity and reliability in the diagnosis process. She incorporates both alternative and pharmaceutical regimens in treatment of clients. She utilizes Genomind testing in patients who have a hard time finding the right medications. She believes the client has the final say on medication selection so long as it is deemed safe and appropriate for their condition.

Halima is passionate and dedicated in the treatment and success of her clients. She works closely with each client to help them achieve remission of their symptoms. Areas of expertise include Depressive disorders, Anxiety disorder, Behavioral disorders, Schizophrenia spectrum, bipolar disorder, sleep problems, Trauma spectrum disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
