About me

Hi! I'm a Licensed Psychologist based in California. I received my Masters and Doctorate degree from Saybrook University of San Francisco and have been practicing Clinical Psychology for approximately 9 years. I help clients work through challenging life experiences providing empathic listening and unconditional positive regard that in return helps each client have a greater understanding of both the experience and feelings surrounding it.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and discuss the reasons that brought them to therapy. Additionally encouraging a strong therapeutic alliance is core to the success of therapy. I will often draw on different techniques as they are needed throughout the sessions. The goal of this process is to improve the efficacy and efficiency of treatment and adapt it to the specific needs of each of my clients.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I incorporate unconditional positive regard that encourages my clients to focus on their strengths and accomplishments in order to help them gain a stronger sense of self to ultimately help clients become authors of their own narrative. Additionally, I have worked in various clinical settings, such as, USC hospital and the Violence Intervention Program in Los Angeles, CA , Educational placements, Non Profit Organizations and the Psychiatric Institute of Washington DC. These professional opportunities gave me the ability to provide culturally sensitive therapy and focus on the variation of the therapeutic approach from person to person. I recognize that every individual is unique and that two clients who come from the same culture may still have very different beliefs, values, and preferences.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work together with my clients to help them understand the sources of their anxiety, unhappiness, physical discomfort, or unhealthy behavior patterns so that they can become the best versions of themselves.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

I have been using Psychodynamic techniques in various clinical settings for over 9 years. Psychodynamic Treatment is a type of therapy that helps people understand how their past experiences and unconscious mind influence their current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's based on the idea that many of our problems are rooted in the unconscious mind, and that by bringing these processes to conscious awareness, we can better understand ourselves and make long-term change. It can be used to treat Anxiety, Depression, Eating disorders, Addictions, Relationship problems, and Work and career problems.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized CBT techniques in various clinical settings to help clients manage their anxiety and intrusive/reoccurring thoughts to help clients recognize thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how they influence each other. CBT is a type of psychotherapy that helps people change their thoughts and behaviors to improve their mood and quality of life. It's a combination of cognitive and behavioral therapy that's used to treat a range of mental and physical health. I help my clients learn to identify and manage the factors that contribute to their anxiety and depression. Through the cognitive component of individual therapy, my clients learn to understand how their thoughts contribute to their anxiety and depressive symptoms. By learning to change those thought patterns, they can reduce the likelihood and intensity of anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I have been using EFT Therapy in private practice and other clinical settings for approximately 9 years. EFT is a humanistic approach to psychotherapy that helps people address emotional and relationship issues. It's based on attachment theory, which emphasizes the importance of connection with others. EFT can be used with individuals, couples, and families. EFT emphasizes the importance of awareness, acceptance, and understanding of emotion; the visceral experience of emotion in therapy; and the importance of changing emotion in promoting psychotherapeutic change.

Humanistic

I incorporate humanistic psychology approaches into each therapy sessions. Humanistic psychology encourages free will, self-discovery and achieving your full potential as a human being, rather than concentrating on individual problems or symptoms. It looks at everything that makes you who you are and focuses on you as a unique individual and your relationship with the world around you.

From the first time I read Dr. Huerta’s bio I knew she was the right therapist for me. It was confirmed when I talked to her the first time. She listens and makes me feel heard. She has empathy but provides hope and solutions to work through different issues. I have made so much progress with her guidance and now we are addressing other areas of my life to work through and go deeper in my healing journey. Shout out to Dr. Huerta I appreciate you :)

Finally I found a good therapist who understands me, and wants to actually help me. Dr Huerta asks great questions and points important things out, which is essential for my mental health. Discovering myself and healing from trauma makes the road long and hard, but I’ve been feeling supported and listened to on every step of the way.
