My career spans various roles, including program therapist for inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, manager of a geriatric behavioral health unit in a rural community, and as department director in a critical care mental health hospital. Throughout my years in the field, I noticed that many individuals struggling with mental health challenges lacked essential skills—whether in communication, emotional regulation, or behavioral management. I specialize in brief collaborative therapy where we look at current issues, how you cope, how you learned the coping skills and alternatives solutions. We will look at your self-care including spirituality and how to improve your self care if needed. Weekly assignment tasks related to your short term goals will be agreed upon. We will work together to learn and understand where you are now and how the past has impacted you. Engaging in therapy can be anxiety provoking, exciting and freeing. If you are willing to work on our mutually agreed upon assignment between our counseling sessions, you will find we make progress. I worked in criminal justice prior to being licensed in Michigan where I grew up and studied. Upon moving to Chicagoland, I worked 10 years with a crisis response team and an employee assistance program. This is where I learned to develop skills to drill down into client issues and work with the client to reduce discomfort and improve coping skills. Our counseling sessions did not last beyond 6-8 meetings. I moved to Texas in 2003 and since then have continued to work on crisis teams and with military members/spouses on installations. My practice has been focused on supporting couples communications; life transitions including grief/loss, career transitions, parenting skills and integrating/applying client's spiritual practice into every day life. Clients describe me as safe to talk with about difficult topics; active and contributing to the dialog; creative in opening up behavioral and cognitive options.

My name is Aleida, welcome to my profile. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes a lot of courage. I want to be the first to commend you for taking this step as I know it is not an easy one. I look forward to getting to know you and forming a strong therapeutic alliance. A little about me, I am a Bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker (State of Texas). I am also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern, and a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist. I have 9 years of professional experience in mental health, and 20 years overall in medical and mental health case management, training, and education. I have ample experience in helping clients with depression, stress, anxiety, grief, self-esteem issues, addictions, trauma, abuse, and anger management among many other mental health issues and disorders. I am very empathetic and my top priority is to create an open and safe environment where my clients can share thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement. I consider myself to be very approachable and easy to talk to, and in my professional interaction display cultural awareness, competence and humility with each and every one of my clients. I recognize and acknowledge my clients as unique individuals, with diverse backgrounds, who may not share commonalities with me. I am always open to learn about my clients background, and by no means will appear to be the expert in their life experience. I want to have my clients feel welcomed and supported through their diverse life stressors. I do not take a cookie-cutter approach to therapy, but instead, focus on my client as an individual, and tailor a therapeutic intervention that will best help my client in feeling supported and heard, while working on achieving their therapeutic goals.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take Parkland Community Health Plan - Medicaid?

Yes! If you use Parkland Community Health Plan - Medicaid you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Parkland Community Health Plan - Medicaid you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
