My name is Brenda Acevedo and I have over 15 years experience working in the mental health field in Texas. I am Licensed Professional Counselor, with a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I started working with the State of Texas as a social worker helping the indigent population in 2010.

I have experience with the Intellectual Developmental Disable (IDD) population, Addictions, Trauma, and Crisis.

Since then, I have worked with adults (men/women, LGBTQ-IA), children, couples, the elderly, and families. I have experience with the Intellectual Developmental Disable (IDD) population, Addictions, Trauma, and Crisis.

First session

During the first session, we will discuss biological, psychological, and social aspects of the clients life. We will review paperwork, discuss what brings the client in, and go over how I can possibly help the client.

Strengths

My therapeutic approaches are using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian, and Reality Theories. I like these theories because I believe in getting to the root of the presented problem from where it stems. In this way the clients needs are not only addressed, but symptoms are reduced. Receiving answers, and understand the problem can motivate a client to problem solve. In this way, we can work toward a resolution that works best. Using the Adlerian growth model, assists in growth towards being the clients better self, by ways of finding meaning, to create the clients vision of a better life.

Ideal clients

I have experience with the Intellectual Developmental Disable (IDD) population, Addictions, Trauma, and Crisis. I specifically have worked with clients who have been diagnosed with Paranoid Personality Disorders (PPD), Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Major Depression. I have worked with a variety of populations, with an array of socio-economic brackets. I am also proficient in working with diverse cultures, using multicultural counseling techniques.

Treatment methods

Brenda seems very nice and patience. She's a great listener and can help me center back in on topics whenever I lose the point of what we are addressing in conversation.

I feel hopeful. Thorough, authentic, intelligent & willing to listen. People deny me care as a hard case, Ms. Acevedo listened in earnest kindness. I feel empowered. I feel seen as a human being with trauma & who deserves care. I trust she is serious about helping me in peace & clarification. I feel genuine care & opportunity to help. She did not dismiss me. I feel safe sharing my painful experience. I am relieved & immensely grateful. Thank you for honesty, clarity & kindness. You listened.
