I have always had the conscious goal of supporting others with being able to overcome their hardships and internal challenges that prevents them from being successful. I am a firm believer that in life we have all experienced some type of challenge that will impact our thoughts and emotions. For some people the challenge is more difficult than others and they will experience greater hardship and internal challenges that will send them on a spiral to the unknown. Being a therapist has always been a desire of mine to support others with understanding their thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviors associated with how they feel.

I have worked in diverse mental health settings and have been practicing therapy since 2015. I am the oldest daughter of immigrants and a first generation college graduate. From a very young age I felt the weight of expectations put on to me by my family, society, and my culture. I became very good at taking on roles that were not mine, and quickly burned myself out. It wasn’t until graduate school that I really allowed myself to explore the root of my unhappiness. I needed to stop doing for everyone else and finally make myself the priority; I mattered too. I now enjoy empowering individuals to find their voice and discover the freedom that comes with letting go of past hurt and behaviors that no longer serve them, and finally pursue the life they’ve always wanted.

Hello! My name is Kathy Kinskey. I have a masters degree in marriage and family counseling & count myself as very lucky to be a licensed and seasoned professional counselor who has worked with individuals, families and children for over 26 years! My continued training and experience continue to help me hone my specialization in attachment and trauma work so as you and I collaborate, we have the tools and partnership to help you thrive! Attachment and trauma work are important areas for all of us to address if we want to live and love fully. Taking a quiz and identifying your attachment style is the first step to putting the puzzle pieces together about how your attachment style may be influencing your life - how and who you choose as a life partner, how you relate to your children, yourself, your work, money and to all of life! I also specialize in preparation for birth and adoption, bonding, post partum/ post-adoption adjustment and depression - all areas where attachment work can transform your life and your relationships! Know that attachment work can be a fascinating and fun process of discovery! And know, too, we have great tools today...and you have support here in using those tools to meet your goals. Lastly, evidence-based tools for trauma and attachment work can also help you remove entrepreneurial and career blocks and to find your way through anxiety and loss. You can break through old patterns...patterns that are actually just signals that you need a safe and supportive environment along with effective tools so you can develop and use emotional literacy as essential life guidance. No one taught us this stuff. It's not your fault you don't have this information or these tools. The good news though is these things are here for us now!

I currently live in Texas and am licensed in Texas and Wisconsin. I enjoy a great variety of interests so it may be easiest to say I have a great appreciation for most things. Many people would describe me as having a great sense of humor and I do enjoy laughing and love hearing the laughter of others; In the very moment we laugh, for that brief instant, we forget all of our problems and find joy. It may be difficult to remain there, but if we can find if for one moment, we can find it each day. I specialize in client-focused therapy, existential psychotherapy, and mindfulness to help you find your way and explore what is meaningful to you. Website: https://begoodtomyself.com

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take EAP:Cigna?

Yes! If you use EAP:Cigna you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have EAP:Cigna you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
