Dr. Nina Enriquez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing psychotherapy for over 13 years. I received my doctorate from USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. You will find I am a pretty laid back individual yet I will challenge your awareness to reflect and learn why we behave the way we do. This helps to create positive change. I work with individuals of all ages. I provide individual, family, and couples therapy sessions. I specialize in the area of grief, loss, traumatic grief and traumatic bereavement. We will all experience loss in our lives. Loss of health, lifestyle, divorce, a break-up, self-image, identity, trust, faith, death and much more. Grief is a natural response to loss but when we don't know how to manage or cope from grief, we may be at risk of developing a mental health disorder. In therapy, telling your story is vital to growth. Your story is important to express, release and find the root cause that lead to the challenges you have faced in life. Another vital component of therapy is increasing your awareness of the strengths you have. A crisis or stressful event may blind us from strengths we used before to overcome. You will learn different coping strategies and will provide handouts plus worksheets. This is to help you begin to take the steps in self-discovery, reflection, and find the person who were are truly meant to be.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

A psychosocial assessment is conducted at the first session. The goal of the assessment is learn more about the past and present challenges disrupting life, work, family, and/or relationships. Learning about your childhood often helps dictate the struggles one faces in adulthood. Not everyone learned how to problem-solve, make effective decisions or taught how to cope effectively with stressful life events. Your home environment, school, work, and the community, are often factors that may help one understand why they continue to struggle. Towards the end of the first session, we will discuss what goals or areas the client wants to see improve and a treatment plan is designed to meet the individual needs of the client.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Some of greatest strengths are my level of empathy and compassion. No one has a perfect life and I do not judge my clients. I have great listening skills and I am able to formulate open-ended questions helping my clients develop awareness and self-reflection. I have a great sense of humor and laughter helps to break the ice, anxiety, uncertainty or other emotions that may prevent the client from feeling safe. Creating a safe space for my clients is a priority in the delivery and helping process.

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotions and thoughts are normally the basis of how one's behavior is impacted in a negative or positive manner. Emotions are normal and natural but how one's expresses or suppresses these feelings may predict the behavior one will display. Emotions helps one understand how we form relationships, communicate our feelings and the way we bond with people.

Grief Therapy

Everyone will experience loss in their lives. Loss of loved one, trust, security, self-image, culture, identity, relationships, friendships, health, abilities, etc., are some examples how a loss may occur. It is normal and natural to grieve a loss. The inability to know how to manage and cope from intense emotions one may feel at the beginning stages of a loss, these feelings will intensify and may lead to one or two mental health disorders. Grief therapy helps to normalize feelings and teaches coping strategies as a person moves through the different stages of grief and loss.

Narrative

Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy guiding the client in a safe space to share their story of the emotional pain and suffering they have experienced from stressful life events. Re-telling the story and leading questions from the therapist, may lead the client to gain a deeper understanding and awareness to creatively navigate challenges they are facing in their lives.
