Hello, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the states of Texas and Tennessee with 30 years of counseling and ministry experience. I began as a minister of the Gospel in the Southern Baptist tradition in 1993 working with the homeless to overcome the struggles of addiction and hopelessness in North Carolina and Tennessee. From there, I became a case manager in a rural oupatient behavioral health clinic helping the chronically mentally ill live independently outside of the institutional settings. As my family of five children grew, my wife encouraged me to join the military in 2007 and for the next 13 years we served alongside our Soldiers and their Families as a chaplain. There, I learned through experience how to work through the stress of multiple transitions, the unyeilding demands for time and energy, and the unjust nature of toxic environments. I learned how to support those who wanted to strengthen themselves and their relationships in these environments and to ultimately be at peace with who they are and who they want to be.
As I have matured in my training and become licensed in marriage and family therapy, I have found that I now specialize in using Solution Focused therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals identify their strengths and the beliefs that are guiding their behavior. With this knowledge, people can begin to choose who they want to be.
I work with people whose lives have become complicated, heavy, chaotic, or stuck — often after years of stress, addiction, trauma, relationship problems, major life transitions, or simply trying to survive the best way they knew how. My approach is direct, grounded, and practical. I believe meaningful change comes from honest self-examination, healthier behaviors, and learning how to live in a way that is both productive and emotionally sustainable.
Therapy with me is not about pretending life is easy or offering rehearsed positivity. It is about building a real therapeutic relationship where people can reduce the noise, face difficult truths without shame, and develop the tools, structure, and perspective needed to create a more purposeful and satisfying life.
As a seasoned therapist, my experience includes a broad spectrum of mental health issues. I have a network of physicians, mental health providers, and spiritual advisors whose counsel I seek to help provide the best care for my clients. It is my goal to lead clients in asking the right questions and finding answers that will result in positive, forward movement in the therapeutic process. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I use other modalities when necessary to help clients achieve the change they are seeking.
My practice includes marriage and family counseling, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, aging concerns, workplace challenges, mediation, and faith-based counseling upon request. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and issues, helping them develop coping skills and move forward positively. I collaborate with a network of professionals to provide the best care. If I or the client feels I am not the right fit, I will help find someone better suited, without it affecting my self-esteem.

Hi. My name is Deborah Vaughn and I have dedicated my life to making your life better. I have laughed and I have loved. I have cried and I have lost. I have experienced anxiety and depression, poverty and wealth. I have had beauty and acceptance, age and neglect. I have given birth to four children, two that were incarcerated for crimes, and I have had them brought back to me renewed again in life. I've been sad and lonely and I have been on top of the mountain singing praises to the God of the Universe. Experiences, I've had too many to number, both good and bad, and I have learned from each and every one. Empathy I have for all, because I too have probably been there, or I could have been there easily enough. I have saved them all in my mind and heart so that I can help you through any of them you might need my help with. Sincerely, Deborah
