I am a therapist who enjoys building a relationship with my clients by finding how to best understand each other. We may not share a background, but practicing curiosity from a position of genuine interest helps me better understand the people around me and form rapid connections. I believe knowledge and language have power so that the way we think and the information we use to think help us view what we think as changeable and adjust it to be more helpful.

Hi! I am Stephen Kovacs a licensed clinical social worker with 5 years of experience helping adults who feel constantly “on edge” from anxiety and panic—always braced for the next shoe to drop, even when life looks fine from the outside. I’m licensed as an LISW-CP in South Carolina and an LCSW in North Carolina and Virginia, and I see clients via telehealth who are located in those states. My focus is on high-responsibility adults who are tired of living in survival mode: racing thoughts, worst‑case scenarios, physical symptoms like a racing heart or tight chest, and the burnout that comes from holding everything together for everyone else. Together, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what anxiety and panic are doing in your body and your life, and build concrete tools to manage spirals, reduce avoidance, and feel more in control day to day—not with fluffy advice, but with step‑by‑step, doable changes.

I am a warm, steady therapist with more than twenty‑five years of experience helping adults move through trauma, chronic stress, and long‑standing patterns that keep them feeling stuck. Clients often tell me they feel comfortable and safe with me. My presence is calm, grounded, and unhurried, and I work in a way that helps people feel understood and accepted. I specialize in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a gentle, rapid and highly effective approach that helps the mind and body release what has been holding you back, such as childhood or workplace or sexual trauma, phobias, or grief you can't get over. Many people choose to work with me because they want meaningful change without spending years retelling painful stories. They want a therapist who is both deeply experienced and genuinely human, someone who can offer clarity, compassion, and a path forward that actually works. My style is warm, relational, and practical. I blend trauma‑informed care, ART, and integrative approaches to help clients feel lighter, clearer, and more like themselves again. I work especially well with high‑functioning adults who are tired of trying to manage everything alone and want a therapy experience that feels safe, effective, and truly supportive. People choose me because I bring a rare combination of clinical expertise, emotional steadiness, and a deeply respectful approach that honors your privacy, your pace, and your readiness for change. If you are looking for a therapist who can help you move forward in a way that feels grounded, efficient, and genuinely healing, you are in the right place.

I am a Colorado and South Carolina Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience working with: individuals in the midst of grief and other major phase-of-life transitions like divorce, job loss, legal challenges, etc.; teenagers who are struggling with a variety of mental health challenges; couples and families that are struggling to find common ground; and fractured families prior to, during, and after divorce. Building strong families, even through divorce or custody battles, incarceration, or other prolonged periods of estrangement, is a particular area of focus for me. I offer reintegration therapy services for parents and children who have experienced short- and long-term separation or alienation. I love working with families who want to find a way to function better post-divorce. In addition, I spent a decade working for the Alzheimer's Association, which included counseling individuals and families who were facing a diagnosis of dementia. Prior to venturing into the counseling field, I ran a non-profit that operated a 100-bed homeless shelter, a family transitional housing program, and an eight-unit supportive housing project for Veterans. I have a heart for working with military veterans and their families -- having 22 years of service in the US Air Force myself. I served on Active Duty for 6 years, and after a break in service, completed another 16 years as a Reservist. My spouse served alongside me, with each of us deploying twice. Our son is currently serving as well. Therefore, I have been the deployed service member, the spouse left to manage things back home, and the mom watching her "baby" deploy to far-off places. There is almost no part of military service I do not understand through first-hand experience.

Evening and weekend appointments available for working adults. I help adults who are exhausted from anxiety that won't shut off, depression that drains all energy, sleepless nights, or chronic pain that's controlling their lives. Many of my clients have been struggling for months or even years, trying different approaches without finding real relief. They're ready for something that actually works. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) because the research is clear: it provides practical strategies that create measurable change, not just insight. I'm particularly trained in CBT for insomnia (CBT-I) and chronic pain (CBT-CP), which means if you're dealing with sleep problems or pain alongside anxiety or depression, I have specialized tools to help. With over 20 years of experience treating veterans in VA primary care and hospital settings, I've worked with thousands of people facing anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, and trauma. What I've learned: effective therapy requires practical tools you can use immediately, a structured approach that respects your time, and a therapist who genuinely believes you can get better. I opened my private practice specifically to offer evening and weekend appointments because I know working adults can't always take time off during the day. You shouldn't have to choose between your job and getting help for what's keeping you up at night or draining your energy during the day. My approach: We identify what's keeping you stuck, build a practical plan with strategies you can use right away, and track progress weekly. The focus is on tangible results: reduced anxiety, improved mood, better sleep, less pain interference in your daily life. Best fit: Adults ready to actively participate in structured, evidence-based treatment and practice skills between sessions.

My name is Michael and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. As a psychotherapist, my vocation is supporting individuals, working together on your journey toward self-discovery, healing, and learning to thrive from the comfort and convenience of your home or office, and when it is most convenient for you. My work commonly addresses individuals experiencing difficulties in life due to problems stemming from difficulties early in life, anxiety, depression, major life changes, academic challenges (undergrad, graduate, post-graduate studies), the discomfort of feelings that go along with hypervigilance, procrastination, and perfectionism. Sometimes, we need help from someone new, experienced with developing collaborative relationships to find strengths we take for granted, and to embrace that we can be the person we’re meant to be. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, or major life changes? Let’s talk! I do not prescribe medication, and I do not see clients under the age of 18.

I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a highly effective, skills-based approach for managing depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Together, we’ll focus on building real-life tools you can use right away—whether that’s regulating intense emotions, navigating stress, or improving relationships. My approach is person-centered, which means your therapy is designed around you—not a rigid formula. I take the time to understand your unique experiences and goals so we can create a path forward that actually fits your life. Clients often come to me looking for practical strategies, deeper self-understanding, and meaningful, lasting change—and that’s exactly what we work toward. I’m committed to creating a space that feels supportive, collaborative, and genuine, where you can be yourself and make real progress at your own pace. And every now and then, you may be greeted by my Newfoundland, Teddy, or my cat, Misty, who occasionally make surprise appearances and tend to bring a little extra comfort (and a few smiles) to sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by state rather than a city?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across the entire state. If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near your address.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Military/Veterans?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Military/Veterans, is filtering therapists in South Carolina that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
