Hi! My name is Vanessa. I have an awesome labradoodle named Phinny. I enjoy spending time outside in the fresh air, reading and painting. I am looking forward to getting to know you! Living with depression, anxiety or knowing something isn’t right but not knowing what to call it can be overwhelming and feel defeating. As a therapist and a human being I have seen the immense strength it takes to make the first step to ask for help and support. Your recovery and healing journey begins with you, who you are as a person and your experiences. I believe that you have immeasurable tools and strengths inside waiting to be discovered. I have been a therapist for the last 10 years providing therapy to adults living with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, self-esteem issues and psychotic disorders. I also have extensive experience with supporting the family members of those living with severe and persistent mental illness; understanding their loved one's experience, learning how to connect and support with them, as well as working through the pain and grief you are experiencing. My approach to the therapeutic relationship is person-centered, respectful, tailored to you and strengths-based. Open communication and collaboration are vital pieces of the therapy process. The evidenced based approaches that I utilize elements of are traditional talk therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I come from a background of running multiple integrated clinical programs, and I understand the needs of people from a whole person approach. Your mental health struggles do not define you, however they are a part of your journey and I look forward to the opportunity to walk through this recovery process with you.

I believe that a holistic approach to mental health is the most lasting way to approach therapy. I enjoy working with individuals to explore their feelings to come to a place of acceptance and self-compassion. My areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma. All of us have things in our lives that didn’t cause the trauma but trigger it. I can help you overcome these triggers. I am passionate about educating people about “small t trauma” and “big T trauma,” because so often individuals don’t even recognize traumatic experiences as significant because “they could have had it worse.” "Little t traumas" are experiences that leave someone feeling hopeless. They are distressing events that can be beyond a person’s ability to cope, although they do not necessarily cause life-threatening or bodily-threatening outcomes. Some examples of "little t traumas" can include; infidelity, divorce, legal trouble, grief, interpersonal conflict, bullying, financial difficulty, chronic stress, living in an unsafe environment, or feeling unloved, worthless or unimportant. "Big T traumas" are the types of traumas that are deeply disturbing, life-threatening events or situations. some examples of these are being the witness to or victim of; violent crimes, abuse, war, natural disasters, serious car accidents, or death. Working through trauma is hard, it is often life-long, but it is worth it. I can help you live your best life, regardless of your trauma history. I am honored to work with all types of individuals. I strive to live an examined life and to continue to learn and better myself, to best impact the world around me. I know from my personal and professional experiences that we must have good habits firmly in place or bad habits will take over. I aim to educate and empower my clients within a safe, inclusive and nonjudgmental environment.

Change in life is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck in the chaos. My passion is helping people learn how to handle life changes successfully. I help my clients thrive by aiding them to identify the patterns and habits that interfere with their growth. I believe my job is to empower you to improve your life. I know that the hardest step in seeking help is finding the energy to sign up or admitting that you are ready to make a change or be uncomfortable in your vulnerability. Change is difficult but change is the only constant that I can guarantee that occurs every day. No matter what you are experiencing it is not too small or too big, because at the end of the day you are the only one in your mind/body experiencing whatever presenting problem you have and I am here to help, guide, foster, and process with you. Failure is okay and sometimes is the only place that we can truly learn and grow from that experience. I am ready and excited to work with anyone who is here to take that step. I like to make my space a safe and non-judgmental one where you can openly express yourself. I like to use a variety of techniques in sessions and tend to take a more holistic approach.

I am the mother to 2 grown children and a grandmother. I was married for over 40 years prior to my husband passing, I now share my house with a Golden Retriever. I went back to school later in life, and like to encourage others to do the same if possible. My first experience in this field came when I got a job at a county mental health/developmental services program as a receptionist. I was motivated by all the great work that the caseworkers were doing to improve their clients lives. I went back to school to finish my Bachelors and finally received a Masters in Social work. I retired from the county program as a Casework Supervisor, I felt that my position was becoming more administrative, and I was missing the connections I had made with my clients. At that time I felt it was time to work on what my original goal was which was to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I did work for 5 years with children with behavioral issues in school and in their homes. My previous position was in a small practice in rural PA, where I learned the importance of being eclectic in my treatment approach because every clent and their situation is different , and they deserve to have a treatment plan specifically targeted to their situation

I am a Licensed Psychologist based in Pennsylvania. I received my Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from the California School of Professional Psychology and I have been in the field of psychology for over 20 years. When you’re looking for a therapist, one of the most important things is finding someone with whom you can develop a safe, healthy, and trusting relationship. I believe that it is in the context of this kind of relationship, that healing, growth, and learning occur. In all my work, I have been guided by my belief in the importance of psychodynamic and relational principles: the impact our earliest experiences and relationships have on our present life. My work is also always informed by efforts to understand the larger systemic issues that affect the lives of those who come to me for help and support.

I provide short term therapy that is designed to “lift the weight off your shoulder” within the first session. Many people only choose therapy when they are in crisis and need immediate relief. Together we will identify the source of destress and ways to reduce or eliminate it. This can be done in many ways, but the purpose is to find that way that helps YOU! By using your strengths and resources we will develop an action plan to enable you to use effective coping skills to gain and maintain emotional and mental balance long after you complete treatment. It’s important to know therapy isn’t just about helping you feel better, it’s about helping you Live Better. For the last twenty years, I have devoted myself to enhancing the well-being others. My flexibility has allowed me to engage in a range of positions, both volunteer and work related; thus, heightening my overall experience. I have been committed to empowering individuals with the tools to use their inner strength to overcome those stumbling blocks within.

I am a compassionate and dedicated therapist with over 30 years of experience in guiding individuals through life’s most challenging moments, including struggles with depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, family conflicts, and developing coping skills. I am deeply committed to empowering clients through a culturally and spiritually integrated approach that centers around the Alternative Christ-Like African Thematic Therapy (ACLATT) model. ACLATT is a unique therapeutic model I developed specifically to support Christian clients of African descent. It integrates Christian values with African principles, providing a holistic, culturally sensitive healing experience. This approach emphasizes identity, love, faith, and hope, helping clients recognize their God-given potential and fostering a strong sense of purpose. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, supporting them in reframing perspectives and developing practical coping strategies. My work is rooted in the belief that “Being precedes Doing”—by understanding one’s identity in Christ, clients are empowered to realize their gifts and purpose, which enriches their actions and overall well-being. Whether working with individuals, families, or couples, I am committed to helping clients achieve emotional healing, spiritual growth, and lasting transformation aligned with their cultural and spiritual values.

Greetings, my name is John Luke. I am a licensed clinical social worker and specialize in helping people to effectively manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns using cognitive behavioral techniques. I have worked with a range of populations, nearly all ages, and also have experience with addiction treatment and life-coaching. I work with people to develop insight into the source of their problems, how their core beliefs about the world might be hindering their progress, and focus on their natural strengths to overcome those barriers with practical skills that generate sustainable change. Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling. Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out! (Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)

Hello! I'm a Pennsylvania-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker and yoga teacher who treats anxiety, depression and trauma. I combine EMDR, somatic therapy and strength based talk therapy to help clients connect with their whole selves and live their lives more authentically. As we work together, clients become more self aware, reduce the impact of old wounds, and clear space for new patterns of thought, feeling and action. This process helps them move more freely towards the future they desire.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance?

Yes! If you use UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
