LPC, 4 years of experience
Welcome! My name is Kali. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. I want to acknowledge your courage and the importance of this moment. You are taking the first steps towards healing and rediscovering who you are. Change or events in life can develop a sense of feeling uneasy or just leaving you feeling "off". This feeling can grow to the point that it can be hard to manage and may start to impact your day-to-day life, sense of security, understanding of yourself, and/or relationships with others. Having a space to know you are able to talk about these stressors or struggles is important but feeling that you have this space is just as, and sometimes, more important. This is what we can develop together. Therapy is a collaboration between both you and me, to develop a safe, non-judgmental, and empowering space to discuss any concerns or struggles you may be facing. We can build and practice skills to use outside of therapy, review maladaptive or unhelpful thought patterns, better understand your needs in order to have strong boundaries, and creating your own safe space to practice processing the stressors in life are key aspects to our work together. We will work at your own pace and create goals that target what you need or want within therapy.
Our first session together will provide a space for you to talk about why you are seeking therapy and allow for development of goals. We will discuss your rights and responsibilities within therapy, limits of confidentiality, the benefits of assessment taking, and review safety planning. This session will also provide a space for you to feel comfortable and see if I am a good fit for you.
I have worked within high levels of care where I have worked with various different individuals and populations. The approaches used in therapy will change and intersect depending on your needs, allowing for a more holistic approach. Everyone has many parts to themself, so it is important to include them all, but not all parts will benefit from one approach. The main modality that is used is CBT with a person-centered approach; however, I have utilized aspects of DBT, somatic therapy, and solution based therapy. These different modalities have assisted clients that struggle with anxiety, depression, executive functioning concerns, poor self-esteem, and various stressors. I also use many metaphors in therapy, as I find they can be helpful to connect and understand difficult concepts.
I have been working within the mental health field for the past 4 years and have worked with individuals that have struggled with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and interpersonal relationship concerns. When working together there will be a heavy focus on safety, goal setting, and skill building in relation to what your main concerns are. Therapy is a unique collaboration between therapist and client, where your voice is important and encouraged!
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been the main focus within this practice. Working to understand how you interact with the environment around you to better understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact each other can provide a change in mindset when you are struggling or feeling stuck. This therapy is goal-oriented and works to find collaborative solutions to unhelpful thinking patterns.
Every individual is unique in their own way and have different needs. With Person-Centered therapies, you are the expert of yourself and have the capacity to grow and heal within a supportive and non-judgmental environment. Use of this therapy within sessions can allow for a deeper understanding of who you are, your wants, your needs, and how you heal allowing for a collaborative journey together.
