Hi! I'm John. Are you having a hard time managing your work stress? Anxiety? Are you feeling like your relationship/marriage is 'On the rocks?' Or, just feeling down? If so, I can help! I have helped both individuals and couples work through challenges of all varieties stemming from many different and unique issues. I help clients work through their challenges by helping them to identify practical solutions, barriers, and strengths that lead them to being able to solve their particular issue(s). I love using Solution-Focused and Cognitive-Behavioral therapies to get individuals and couples past the obstacles standing in their way so they can lead productive and fulfilling lives. You have made the right choice seeking out therapy. Most find therapy to be enjoyable and an opportunity for personal growth. It can feel good to just 'let it out' or 'get it off of your chest.' Sometimes just having someone to listen and understand can make a big difference! I look forward to working with you and to walking with you on your journey and to helping you through your difficult time.
I have often found that in my years of practice that clients take away not only a better understanding of their difficulties and how to handle them but also understanding themselves in relation to those difficulties. It's not only important to learn a specific technique(s) in counseling to deal with a particular issue but it's also just as important to understand when, where, how and why the problem arose in the first place. Client take away with them a deeper understanding of how their family, upbringing, personal experiences, traumas, successes and failures influence the way they face the world and their unique problems.
I have found an eclectic approach that utilizes a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, and traditional Behavioral therapeutic approaches to be my go-to. Each client is different in how their problem(s) can best be understood and treated. What works for one client may not be as effective for another. For example if using a more Solution-Focused approach for treating anxiety I may explore what the client can change in his or her particular situation that is causing the anxiety and what the client cannot change. Then planning how the changeable can be used to improved his or her anxiety. In addition, it may taught and assigned to the client ananxiety reduction technique such as the 3-3-3 method.
Aside from working with children, families and adolescents, I particularly enjoy and excel at working with young adults and couples. More specifically, I like helping young men and women navigate through challenges in college, career, dating, family and friend conflicts or any other issue that young adults face. Couples are yet another group that I love to work with. Helping couples improve their communication and manage conflict while helping each person to understand each other and their unique needs I feel is most important to keeping families happy and together.
