I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist who believes therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly clinical. My style is informal, conversational, and collaborative, creating a space where you can show up as yourself without worrying about saying the “right” thing. I have no expectations for you to present yourself in a certain way, change anything about yourself, or hide anything. Each thing that you share will only help our work together, and guide me to the best understanding of you and your needs, so that we can navigate your challenges as a team, and take all factors into consideration. My goal for my sessions is to create an environment where the people that I meet with understand that they will never be met with judgement, unreasonable expectations, or negativity. Together, we can create a map of what you’re going through, identify and build on your strengths, and find practical ways to grow toward the life you want.
Minds are designed for thinking and it is human nature to make connections with others. I am dedicated to helping a client slow down to contemplate, explore, and become self-aware of their own needs, personal well-being, interests, strengths and how to relate to others. I will help clients create spaces and opportunities to practice emotional regulation, explore difficult situations, provide therapy for previous history of trauma and loss, and begin or continue a healing journey.
Over 22 years of actively working with others to support their holistic healing journey has formed my practice to include multiple different modalities. These modalities include Cognitive behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, DBT, Mindfulness techniques and somatic therapeutic interventions. I am licensed in three states (NY, NC, and SC) and have 8 years total of clinical experience. My career started in North Carolina when I got my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Carolina University and completed my internship serving as a counselor in an inpatient substance use treatment facility. After that, most of my career was spent serving diverse populations in New York City, in multiple settings of care including substance use treatment and community mental health treatment facilities, and private practice settings. I worked with a heavily diverse, international, and multicultural population from many backgrounds. Over time I had immersive experience building a niche working with LGBTQ+ clients. I also worked with clients from all walks of life navigating concerns around trauma, addiction, mood disorders, major life transitions, and concerns regarding intimate relationships.
I consider my counseling approach to be ecletic. I incorperate concepts from many different modalities and adapt them to the unique needs of my clients. Some of the major counseling theories I draw from include Person-centered therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognative Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and many others.
