Hello, I'm Josh! Have you been feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just worn down by the hardships of life? Maybe you've had some difficult experiences or have battled things like worry, sadness, or addiction. If so, I am glad you are here! You don't have to go through these things alone. I am a licensed mental health counselor with a passion for caring for people! I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including mobile crisis response, teen residential treatment, and providing therapy services for parents and children involved in the child welfare system. My primary specialty is working with individuals who have lived through traumatic experiences or who are impacted by historical or cultural trauma. I also love working with people who have a variety of other goals, needs, or challenges. It is important for me to work with my clients, not just direct how they do things. I will do my best to learn your preferences, beliefs, and background, so we can work together to help you reach your goals. I am a firm believer that therapy can make a drastic difference in improving your life and bringing balance to your situation. I am excited to be part of your journey!
A lot of people feel nervous about starting their first therapy session, and that's totally normal! I will do my best to keep things relaxed and as stress-free as possible. In our first session together, we will get to know each other a little better and discuss the therapy process. I will work to learn more about what brought you into therapy and what your goals are. We will come up with a list of your specific goals and how we will measure your progress in those goals. Depending on your goals and needs, I may also may use some additional assessments and work with you to create a safety plan. All this will set the stage for us to build a strong therapy relationship and achieve your goals!
My passion for the people I serve is one of my greatest strengths as a therapist. I want you to be living the best life possible! I also work to continually develop my skills and knowledge as a therapist by attending training events, reading recent research, and collaborating with other professionals. I want to be the best therapist I can for everyone who meets with me!
I am passionate about building a safe, supportive environment for clients who want to work through the challenges of life and mental health. Many people have gone through challenging or traumatic life events and want someone to help them navigate their healing journey. Others may be struggling with difficult life decisions, new transitions, or feelings of anxiety and depression. Whatever your situation, I am looking to come alongside you and help you reach your goals.
EMDR
EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional struggles that are come from traumatic or highly distressing life experiences. I have been able to utilize this method to assist people in overcoming symptoms resulting from a wide variety of traumatic experiences. EMDR is considered an effective treatment, and can help reduce symptoms quickly.
Grief Therapy
Major losses can lead to lasting emotional pain and psychological symptoms. I work with clients to utilize evidence-based methods to help people process and heal from their grief in a safe, caring environment.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented type of talk therapy that helps people identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that negatively impact their feelings and overall quality of life. I guide individuals in learning strong coping skills and identifying and changing unhelpful thought and behavioral patterns to improve their overall quality of life.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma can affect how children think, feel, and behave, but there are effective treatments that can help. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is the best supported evidence-based approach designed to help children and teens, ages 3-18, process difficult or traumatic experiences in a safe, supportive way. Through structured sessions, TF-CBT helps young people learn healthy coping skills, manage overwhelming emotions, and gradually make sense of what they’ve been through. Parents and caregivers are also actively involved in the process, learning strategies to support their child and strengthen communication at home. TF-CBT has been shown to be especially helpful for children dealing with experiences such as abuse, grief, violence, or other traumatic events, helping them rebuild confidence, resilience, and a sense of safety.
