(she/her)
Hello, I am Lori Breland, MA, NCC, LCMHC, C-DBT. My primary focus is working with clients struggling with trauma, family conflict, low self-esteem, lack of supports, inability to regulate strong emotions and self-harming/SI. I am an MA (master's in clinical Mental Health Counseling), NCC (National Certified Counselor), LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor), and C-DBT (Certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am also trained and working on my certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy). I am a member of ACA, ACES, Chi Upsilon Chi Honor Society, and Southern ACES.
During the first session we get to know each other while I get an understanding of how I can assist you. I will need to know your expectations and needs along with what brings you to treatment. The first session is more a meet and greet with some hard questions but nothing to "heavy".
I often use DBT, CBT, and EMDR in my practice. In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. We will look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and experience. During treatment, I'll help you learn how to push back against those thoughts to change your feelings for the better.
I specialize in at risk behaviors especially sexualized behaviors including sex offending and victims of sexual abuse/violence. However, overall; I just want to help someone create a life they can be proud of and become the healthiest versions of themselves. I want to assist in learning skills to navigating a new normal and allowing yourself to "fix" what someone else "broke".
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have trained in DBT since 2015 and have had my certification in DBT since 2023.
EMDR
I have been trained in EMDR since 2020 and am currently working on getting certified.
