After having a career in the medical and academic fields, I went back to college to earn my MSW and LCSW. My focus was to develop the skills necessary to help people in my community. My mission is to give back to the community and to help those who need to overcome the paralyzing effects of depression, anxiety, and dysfunctional thinking rather caused by academic stress/change, a medical condition, relationship issues or life stresses. People suffering from depression, anxiety, panic, and OCD are often not only battling the disease but also its impact on their families. The impacts are great. The impact can be job loss or change, financial issues, marriage difficulties, or family dynamic shifts. Most patients have one or more of these impacts to deal with at the same time they are dealing with their condition. The combination can be very overwhelming and difficult to understand. My focus is to help my clients learn to cope with the new challenges of their condition. Together, we will explore the tools that can be used to learn to cope. I believe that together we can make a very difficult time easier

My name is Gretchen Raring, and I am a dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW—NJ, FL, AZ & ND; LICSW—MA). I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University in Philadelphia and bring over 20 years of experience supporting individuals across diverse settings, including mental health, addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and veteran populations. As a therapist, I value a therapeutic relationship rooted in acceptance, authenticity, and meaningful collaboration. I am collaborative by nature and believe strongly in working with you, not just for you. My style blends warmth with practicality—I help you explore your inner world while also offering concrete tools and strategies that support real, lasting change. I’m adaptable, responsive, and skilled at meeting clients exactly where they are. I recognize that each person’s needs, strengths, and abilities are unique. Together, we will identify the approaches and techniques that best align with your goals and support your growth. My aim is to empower you to make positive, sustainable changes while deepening your understanding of yourself. My work focuses on supporting individuals who are learning to prioritize themselves—strengthening self-esteem, cultivating self-love and self-care, quieting the inner critic, and reconnecting with their authentic sense of identity. Together, we will explore your experiences with compassion and curiosity, develop increased self-awareness and a deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, supporting personal growth and meaningful change.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Massachusetts rather than a city like Boston?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Massachusetts. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Massachusetts from Springfield to Cape Cod! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Massachusetts.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
