I have just finished publishing my book, Promise Yourself: Lessons from a Front Porch Swing." It is a book founded on the lessons my grandmother left me in a note. I took those lessons and blended them with positive psychology. It is a tribute to my grandmother and helpful to my patients. Anything you want to know about me is on my website roger.corbinmsw. On my website, you will find a professional background that is varied, from various aspects of healthcare, from administration to academia. I look forward to using my experiences to help you along your journey. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to meeting you.
The first session is focused on getting to know one another and gathering important information. It’s a time for you to share what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the experience. We will explore your current concerns, discuss your support systems and how you use them, and begin identifying the goals that matter most to you. Together, we will develop an initial plan that feels comfortable, meaningful, and aligned with your needs moving forward..
I take a client-centered approach, honoring that each person brings a unique story, life experience, and path forward. Drawing from positive psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy, I gently help clients gain insight into their thoughts and behaviors while supporting them in making meaningful, lasting changes. Together, we work to strengthen mental, physical, and spiritual well-being in a way that feels both personal and sustainable. My years in healthcare and as a professor of clinical pathology have provided me with a distinctive foundation for working with diverse populations. I have supported individuals managing complex issues as well as those facing significant academic and professional pressures. This background has strengthened my ability to connect with people from varied walks of life, and I bring that flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and clinical insight into my therapeutic practice.
My practice is patient-centered, and I meet individuals where they are in their lives. Over the years, I have worked with clients facing a wide range of concerns, including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, academic challenges, adolescents exploring gender identity, and individuals navigating sexual identity transitions. I believe therapy should unfold in a way that is meaningful, respectful, and effective for each person. My approach is tailored to support each client’s unique experiences, strengths, goals, and pace of growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I help the patient understand the cognitive distortions that are creating their anxiety and depression. By understanding the cognitive process behind these conditions we build new ways of thinking.
Narrative
The ecological psyche generates stories about who we are and impacts our cognitive processing. By examining these narratives we can alter the impact on the cognitive process
Positive Psychology
It emphasizes strengths, virtues, and conditions that allow individuals to thrive. Instead of looking at what is wrong, we change the cognitive process to look at what is right with you. The focus becomes looking at positive thoughts, being more self complimentary than critical and having gratitude.
