Cheryl Walker
26 Years experience providing treatment and leading County Behavioral Health teams. I have treated Seriously Mentally Ill adults and senior adults. Next I worked 10 years treating individuals with Mild to Moderate symptoms, face to face and through telecommunication. Most recently I have worked with incarcerated men and women. I have extensive experience helping clients cope with co-occurring, medical illness and substance abuse. I cope with my stress by helping others in ways they find helpful. I also like to garden and provide support to the dwindling Monarch Butterfly population.
First session
1. Review symptom and treatment history, required paperwork and ask what has been helpful and what was not helpful. 2. Answer your questions. 3. Discuss diagnostic history and previous treatment plans. 4. Discuss how you want to implement the treatment plan that caused you to reach out to me.
Strengths
I am a consumer of mental health treatment myself. I coped in ways that were not fully helpful. I returned to college, and became a therapist. I learned to face my fears and how to live with a panic disorder. I know that treatment is a challenge and hard work. I found tools that were helpful for me. I will help you find tools that are helpful for you. I do my best to seek the latest best scientific practice to help sooth. I focus on Solution Focus Therapy because it is respectful of what the client finds helpful. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy tool because they are very practical and helped me.
Ideal clients
Change, stress and trauma happen to us all. Everyone copes with it. You will be able to identify your coping mechanisms and how they are helpful or not helpful. You will decide if you wants to add new coping skills. You will decide if you want to initiate a change or change how you think about your stress and trauma.
